• The Pioneer: The venue was a massive venture by legendary rock and roll DJ and impresario Murray Kaufman, famously known as Murray the K.
• Discotecture: Operating as one of the world's first multimedia discotheques, it was designed in collaboration with the media-art collective USCO. Instead of a traditional dance hall, the massive space featured a 17,000-square-foot dance floor surrounded by black-and-white Op Art canvases, multiple movie screens projecting underground films, and sliding light projections across the dancing crowd.
• The Music: The hangar hosted massive live acts, with performances by The Young Rascals, The Hollies, Mitch Ryder, and The Isley Brothers.
• The Spotlight: The club's futuristic take on nightlife garnered major media attention, including a featured cover story in Life Magazine in May 1966.
• The Demise: Despite a massive, $350,000 transformation, the club struggled. It lasted only a few months, hindered in large part by a crippling, month-long New York City transit strike that prevented patrons from traveling to Long Island.
