It was a long day being on the road by 06:30AM to get to North Haven Gardens in Dallas for load-in. Running this event solo this time around is probably the most challenging because of how much foot traffic comes through such a small yet cozy space.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by today. Whether it was a complement of our work to taking home a handcrafted piece for yourself or a loved one, my heart is so full tonight. It wasn’t just about the turn out—the overall vibe was amazing. DFW Plant Collective knows how to throw a party. 🥹🪴

Tomorrow John and I will be set up closer to home in Copperas Cove for the September Sunset Market hosted by Artisan Alley Market & Phoenix Botanicals from 4P-8:30P.

There’s a fantastic line up of baked goods, canned goods, cold pressed juice, freshly made drinks, bath & body items, art, jewelry, decor, accessories, and more. I’m so excited to see all our local vendor friends!

We’ve been in survival mode for months now leading up to this. Our lack of social media posting and website updates is the first sign. A lower inventory of wire trees at markets has been the biggest sign.

After numerous doctor’s appointments, x-rays, nerve testing, and occupational therapy twice per week an hour way, it is looking to be carpal tunnel, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, and potentially arthritis. John’s past lives in the Army and civilian life being a mechanic, as well as trimming pet pig hooves were the earliest contributors. The repetitive motion of twisting trees added to become the perfect storm.

There is nothing worse than the feeling of helplessness in a body that can’t do what it normally could do on a daily basis. To feel like overnight you’ve lost a sense of independence you took for granted. Becoming hyper-aware of the range of motion loss, areas of pain, numbness, and the inability to do what you love weighs on the mind.

A statement tree has sat half-finished in the studio for over a month. Last month our friends Bri Burkeen helped me set up our booth because John’s pain was so severe it would’ve taken everything out of him to unload the tables and totes of inventory.

As the partner watching it all unfold, it hurts to know I can’t fix it.

In some ways I understand how John felt when I was going through my first MS relapse.

You want to make it better—you want to take the pain away. Instead, all you can do is damage control, find ways to make everyday life easier, take over as many of their tasks as possible, and just be there.

This morning John had injections in both wrists in hopes to see if some of the pain can be managed before deciding on surgery. Here’s to hoping for an improvement and gaining back some normalcy in our lives.

I/we will be at North Haven Gardens for the DFW Plant Collective 3 Year Anniversary swap & shop in Dallas from 11:30A-2P this Saturday and we will be at Artisan Alley’s Sunset Market in Copperas Cove from 4P-8:30P this Sunday.

The rest of our schedule is up in the air.

Change of plans today. 😖 We will NOT be at the Alvarado Artisans & Farmers Market today. John is having a severe pain flare up which makes it difficult to drive and manage load-in/load-out. I can manage indoor events solo, but not outdoor pop ups. Sadly we will have to sit this weekend out. 💔

Please still plan to stop by and support the small businesses set up there today between 10A - 2P. Don't forget the weekly Burleson Farmers Market from 9A - 2P is happening down the road today too!
