Nandina domestica is sold under the common name of Sacred Bamboo or Heavenly Bamboo; however, there is nothing scared or heavenly about it!
It’s grossly invasive, non-native, and its berries are toxic to wildlife! Yes, toxic…they contain cyanide!
Once established, removing it is no easy task! As I re-naturalize a client’s landscape, I am on my fourth round of Nandina domestica root removal.
Please PLANT NATIVE! There are tons of amazing natives that offer beautiful color, texture, and dimension to any landscape. Pollinators and wildlife will thank you!
