June Calendar notes: We have 2 Ladies' Patchwork Hours where you can sit and listen to a chunk of a good book. Bring your knitting or sewing or drawing or other handwork if you want to do that while you listen. We will be closed for July, opening again on August 4.

It is black's turn and the black king and his only remaining pawn cannot move. "The laws of chess do not permit a king to move into a square controlled by enemy forces." - From First Book of Chess by Al Horowitz and Fred Reinfeld. You may encounter these and other rules as you play chess with us and others this coming Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 6 at our regular chess time. The above situation is a stalemate, a type of draw which prevents either player from winning and this simulated end game is over (I got it out of the same book.) Come and play chess next Tuesday at 4! Or take advantage of another time. We usually have a chess board set up and ready to play.
