Hello everyone, I apologize for not posting in a while. Retirement is keeping me busy, something a number of you warned me about.
I once again come to you with a heavy heart and sad news. I was informed yesterday by Mort Kunstler's studio that Mort passed away on Sunday, Feb 2nd. I have known this brilliant, talented man for over 30 years, 5 of those years I worked directly for Mort's publishing business American Spirit Publishing. I worked as Mort's dealer rep, travel companion, and just over all "girl Friday". This afforded me the opportunity to work directly with Mort, make business decisions, and spend hours in the car traveling from point A to B listening to many stories of his art, his adventures, who he had worked with and his family. There was mutual respect because we would on only a few occasions - "Agree, to disagree." I have wonderful memories which I will always cherish, and not unlike my customers, my Mort Kunstler collection of artwork hangs in almost every room. Along with a stack of signed books and keepsakes.
To all of you that followed his talent, bought his artwork and came to the numerous artist shows in Gettysburg. Mort loved meeting you and explaining the concept of his paintings. You were so important to him that he left his beloved home and family to be with you. Mort Kunstler is still America's Premier Historical Artist. With over 4,000 sketches and paintings; just open a book of his, you will see western, native American, Revolutionary and of course Civil War among others.
I could go on and on about Mort but I won't today. BUT I will celebrate this man's life by continuing to post over the next week MY experiences here on our page. I would also like to hear your stories with Mort, so please feel free to share.
Mort's service was today, and you can visit Gutterman's Funeral Home's website (Long Island) to view a video of this simple and sweet remembrance of Mort.
God Speed Mort, rest in peace, your friend Debbie.
