We are a premiere manufacturer whose mission is to create products that solve the problems for families with special needs. Our founder, Rose Morris, started this company because she had to solve a problem for her own family - how to keep her son, Abram who is on the autism spectrum, safe at night from wandering. Rather than sitting back and waiting for someone else to solve this problem, she went

out and developed the solution herself. Now, over 10 years later, she, along with her team of experts, continue to develop new lines of products such as the Wheely Cape, Fidget Folder and Weight Mate that help and support the daily activities of special needs families.

BUILT TO LAST, DESIGNED FOR COMFORT 🛌

As a parent or caregiver, you know that a bed is so much more than just a place to sleep - it's a sanctuary. When you are caring for a child or an adult who requires a specialized, secure sleep environment, standard beds often fall short of meeting their unique needs.

You need a solution that gives you absolute peace of mind while keeping your loved one completely safe and deeply comfortable. That is where quality becomes non-negotiable.

We designed The Safety Sleeper® specifically to meet those high standards. We don't cut corners, because we know how demanding daily life can be. Here is how we deliver on that promise:

💪 Industrial-Strength Durability
Our enclosed sleep systems are crafted from exceptionally strong, medical-grade, and tear-resistant materials designed to withstand heavy daily use. From robust frame components to secure fastening systems, every single detail is built to last. It provides a secure, reliable boundary that prevents wandering and minimizes the risk of injury - giving you the confidence that your loved one is safe throughout the entire night.

🩺 Thoughtful, Adaptable Construction
True quality means anticipating the real, practical challenges of daily care. The Safety Sleeper features a highly functional design specifically built to facilitate necessary medical treatments. With integrated access points (depending on the model purchased), the system enables the seamless transfer of feeding tubes, oxygen lines, and monitors. This ensures essential medical care can be safely maintained without compromising the security of the sleep environment.

☁️ Uncompromised, Soft Comfort
While the structure is built for ultimate security and medical functionality, the interior remains a peaceful haven. The inside features soft, inviting, and breathable materials that create a calming, sensory-friendly environment. It is the perfect blend of a secure perimeter and a cozy, relaxing space that helps soothe the nervous system and encourages deep, restorative sleep.

Investing in a specialized sleep system is about investing in long-term reliability for your household. When your loved one sleeps securely and comfortably, the entire family can finally rest easy. 💤

Frequently Asked Questions About The Safety Sleeper

It can be incredibly exhausting and overwhelming for parents who stay awake through the night, constantly on edge, worrying that their child might wander off, experience a nighttime seizure, or accidentally injure themselves.

For children with special needs – including Autism, Epilepsy, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and Sensory Processing Disorders – the bedroom isn't always the safe haven it should be.

Traditional beds simply cannot prevent a child who lacks safety awareness from eloping, falling, or getting stuck between the mattress and the wall, turning the nocturnal hours into a time of high anxiety for the entire household.

That is exactly why families consider The Safety Sleeper a true treasure. Beyond being a medical-grade enclosed bed, it serves as a secure, cozy sanctuary that offers deep sensory comfort to children who are easily overstimulated.

Minimizing visual distractions and offering a comforting, enclosed space help soothe the nervous system, allowing children to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. 💤

When a child finally gets the deep, restorative rest they desperately need, it transforms the entire family's well-being – giving parents the ultimate peace of mind that their child is protected from nighttime dangers, so everyone can wake up feeling refreshed and secure. ❤️

🔹 WHAT IS THE SAFETY SLEEPER?
The Safety Sleeper is a medical-grade, fully enclosed bed system designed to prevent wandering, falls, and nighttime injuries. It creates a secure, calming, and protective sleep environment for individuals with special needs, such as Autism, Epilepsy, Down Syndrome, Dementia, or cognitive delays.

🔹 IS IT SAFE? HOW DOES IT PREVENT ENTRAPMENT?
Safety is our foundational priority. The Safety Sleeper is designed with a patented zipper system and a custom frame configuration that eliminates gaps between the mattress and the fabric enclosure. This strictly prevents limbs or the body from becoming entrapped. 🔒

🔹 CAN IT BE USED AS A PLAY AREA OR A FORT?
NO! Important Safety Note: The Safety Sleeper is strictly engineered and intended as a secure sleep and rest environment. To maintain a healthy sleep association and ensure absolute safety, it should not be used as a playtime area, toy fort, or recreational space. ❌

🔹 HOW DO I CLEAN/WASH THE ENCLOSURE?
We know that accidental spills and messes happen. The entire fabric enclosure is fully machine washable. For best results, wash on a gentle cycle with cold water and air-dry or tumble-dry on low heat. 🧼

🔹 IS IT BREATHABLE? DO PEOPLE GET TOO WARM INSIDE?
The enclosure features durable, medical-grade mesh panels that ensure maximum ventilation and visibility. Airflow is completely unobstructed, keeping the interior comfortable throughout the night. 🌬️

🔹 CAN I TRANSFER MY EXISTING MATTRESS INTO THE SAFETY SLEEPER?
The Safety Sleeper accommodates standard Twin, Twin XL, Full, and Queen mattresses (depending on the model selected). It is crucial that the mattress fits snugly within the base parameters to maintain the enclosure's structural integrity. 🛏️

🔹 CAN WE TRAVEL WITH THE SAFETY SLEEPER?
Yes! One of the biggest benefits of our system is portability. It can be completely disassembled and packed into its accompanying rolling suitcase, allowing your family to maintain a consistent, safe sleep routine during vacations, hotel stays, or visits to family. 🧳✈️

🔹 HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO ASSEMBLE?
While the initial setup might take a bit longer as you familiarize yourself with the components, standard assembly takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes once you know the steps. No specialized tools are required. ⏱️

🔹 IS THE SAFETY SLEEPER COVERED BY INSURANCE, MEDICARE OR MEDICAID?
Because it qualifies as Durable Medical Equipment (DME), many families successfully secure funding through private health insurance, Medicaid, or regional waivers. We provide documentation, specific billing codes, and justification templates to help assist your DME provider through the authorization process. 📝

🔹 WHERE CAN I FIND SPECIFICATIONS OR START AN ORDER?
Please contact our customer care team or visit our product options page to view dimensions, weight capacities, and customization options tailored to your specific needs. 👋💬

✈️ AIR TRAVEL: BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME CHECKLIST ✈️

Traveling by air with The Safety Sleeper? Here is a quick, stress-free checklist and script you can print out or keep on your phone.

When you get to the ticket counter, you want to be polite but incredibly clear and firm. Remember, you have federal law (the Air Carrier Access Act) on your side! ⚖️

📋 THE “BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME” CHECKLIST

📄 Print the Official Letter: Go to The Safety Sleeper website and print the official Airline Free Luggage Documentation letter. Having it on physical paper to hand over prevents a lot of arguments.

🏷️ Tag the Suitcase: Label the outside of The Safety Sleeper suitcase with standard luggage tags, but also add a bright, highly visible tag or sticker that says: "CRITICAL MEDICAL DEVICE - DO NOT LOSE."

🧳 Pack Only the Bed: Make sure there are only bed components in that suitcase. If TSA or the agent opens it and sees clothes, toys, or shoes packed inside, the airline can legally strip its "free medical bag" status and charge you standard baggage fees.

🗣️ THE TICKET COUNTER SCRIPT

When it's your turn to step up to the agent, lead with clarity.

You: "Hi there! We are checking in today, and we have a specialized piece of medical equipment that needs to be checked to our final destination."

(Place The Safety Sleeper suitcase on the scale)

Agent: (Looks at the big suitcase, starts typing, might say it counts as your checked bag or looks for a payment screen).

You: "This is a Class I medical device. It is an enclosed safety bed for my child/family member with special needs. Under the Air Carrier Access Act, it travels completely free of charge and does not count against our personal baggage allowance."

Agent: (May look confused or ask for documentation).

You (Hand them the printed manufacturer letter): "Here is the official documentation from the manufacturer detailing the FDA registration and the federal travel guidelines for this specific device. It needs to be tagged as a medical exemption."

Agent: "Okay, let me figure out how to put that in the system."

You: "Thank you so much. Usually, it just needs a 'Medical Equipment' or 'MEDA' tag attached to the handle so the baggage handlers know to treat it with care."

🚨 What to Do If You Hear: "I have to charge you for this."
Sometimes you get a brand-new agent who doesn't know the rules. If they insist on charging you or counting it as a standard bag, do not get angry -just escalate immediately.

What to say:
"I understand you might not see this every day, but federal law protects medical equipment from baggage fees. Before we process any payment, could you please call your Complaints Resolution Official (CRO) or a supervisor to verify the medical equipment exemption? We have plenty of time to wait."

Every airline is legally required to have a CRO available (either in person or via a dedicated phone line) during operational hours to resolve disability-related issues on the spot. Once the supervisor or CRO steps in, they will know exactly how to override the system and waive the fee!

✈️ Air Travel: Request In Advance For Airport Assistance ✈️

You can – and definitely should – request in-advance airport assistance to help manage your family and The Safety Sleeper. Navigating an airport with a family member with special needs – while hauling a 45-pound medical suitcase – is exactly what these services are designed for.

Here is how to set it up in advance and exactly what to ask for to make your airport experience as smooth as possible. 👇

🛑 HOW TO REQUEST ASSISTANCE IN ADVANCE 🛑

The absolute best way to handle this is through TSA Cares and your airline’s Accessibility Desk. Do not wait until the day of your flight!

1️⃣ Contact TSA Cares (72 Hours Before)
TSA Cares is a dedicated helpline for travelers with disabilities and medical conditions.

What to do: Fill out the online form or call them at (855) 787-2227 at least 72 hours before your flight.

What they provide: They will coordinate with the designated airport so a Passenger Support Specialist can meet you at the security checkpoint. This person will guide your family through the screening process, ensuring your loved one is handled with care and that The Safety Sleeper’s inspection goes quickly and smoothly.

2️⃣ Call the Airline’s Accessibility Desk (During Booking)
Every major airline has a dedicated disability services line (often distinct from standard customer service).

What to do: Call them as soon as you book, or log into your reservation and look for "Request Accessibility Assistance."

What to ask for: Request "Curbside to Gate Assistance."

💼 WHAT TO EXPECT: CURBSIDE TO GATE SUPPORT 💼

When you request in-advance assistance with the airline, here is how the logistics work on travel day:

➡️ STEP 1: Arrival at Curbside
When you pull up to departures, look for a curbside agent or skycap. Let them know you have an advance reservation for mobility/medical assistance. They will summon an agent with a luggage cart or wheelchair.

➡️ STEP 2: The Ticket Counter Check-In
The assistant will help guide your family and transport your bags – including The Safety Sleeper suitcase – directly to the special assistance check-in counter. This is where you hand over The Safety Sleeper as a free medical check.

➡️ STEP 3: Navigating Security
The airline assistant will es**rt your family up to the TSA line. If you set up TSA Cares, your Passenger Support Specialist will meet you here to walk you through the physical screening.

➡️ STEP 4: Es**rt to the Gate
Once through security, the airline assistant will help navigate your family all the way to your specific departure gate. If your loved one needs an airport wheelchair or a cart ride, they will handle the transition.

💡 CRUCIAL TIPS FOR SUCCESS 💡

⏰ Check in at the gate immediately: As soon as you arrive at your gate, introduce yourself to the gate agents. Remind them that you are traveling with a person with special needs and ask for Pre-Boarding. This gives you an extra 10–15 minutes to get your family settled on the plane before the frantic rush of general boarding begins.

💵 It is entirely free: Airlines cannot charge you for this es**rt or physical assistance. (However, tipping the individual skycaps or baggage handlers who haul the heavy lifting is customary and highly appreciated!).

🔄 You can request it for arrivals, too: Don't forget the other side of your journey! Ensure the agent books assistance for your connection cities and your final destination so someone is waiting at the plane door to help you get to baggage claim to retrieve The Safety Sleeper.

Air Travel With The Safety Sleeper ✈️🧳

Thinking about flying with The Safety Sleeper? Here is what you need to know before you head to the airport!

If you care for a loved one with special needs (like autism, Down syndrome, or epilepsy) who relies on an enclosed safety bed, traveling can feel like a logistical mountain. If you are wondering how The Safety Sleeper handles air travel, we have broken down the logistics, the legalities, and the absolute pros and cons.

HOW DOES IT TRAVEL? 🌍

You DO NOT need to ship it via FedEx or ground transportation beforehand! The Safety Sleeper is specifically built for travel.

The Safety Sleeper:

🔹 It packs down into its own CUSTOM WHEELED, HARD-SHELL SUITCASE provided by the manufacturer.

🔹 Total weight packaged up is UNDER 50 LBS (except for the Queen size, which runs around 55 lbs), meaning it fits within standard airline checked baggage weight limits.

DO YOU NEED AIRLINE APPROVAL? ✈️📋

Here is the best news: IT QUALIFIES AS A MEDICAL DEVICE. Under the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA), airlines are legally required to allow certified medical devices to travel at no additional charge, and they do not count against your standard checked bag limits.

💡 PRO-TIP: Do not rely on a gate agent knowing every rule. Go to our website and print out the official Airline Classification Letter for The Safety Sleeper to hand to the agent at the ticket counter. Tell them explicitly: "This is a Class I medical device."

👉 Download the letter here: https://safetysleeper.com/pages/downloads

KEEP IN MIND: 🧠

TSA screening. If you take The Safety Sleeper on board with you, be ready for TSA screening. Because it's full of metal/aluminum framing tubes, TSA will likely open the suitcase to inspect it. Give yourself an extra 20-30 minutes at check-in just in case. Of course, you can avoid all this by checking the bag at the ticket counter.

Flies for Free: Zero baggage fees under the Air Carrier Access Act.

Tool-Free Setup: Snaps together with your own two hands in minutes at the hotel.

Familiarity: Gives your loved one the exact same safe, sensory-regulated sleep environment as home, preventing vacation meltdowns. 💙

The absolute peace of mind that comes from knowing your runner, wanderer, or thrasher is 100% safe in a hotel room makes it worth every second.

Safe travels, everyone! 🛫✨
