Lent is coming! Not as a season of guilt or gloom, but as a sacred invitation.
In the Catholic and Orthodox Christian traditions, Lent is a journey of return — a time to slow down, examine our hearts, and intentionally draw closer to God through prayer, fasting, repentance, and charity.
But regardless of whether you’re Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant, the Lenten season can be a meaningful time for any Christian to pause and ask:
What is pulling my heart away from God...and what would help bring it back?
The purpose of Lent isn’t self-punishment. It’s transformation.
By fasting, we learn self control and make space for God.
By praying more intentionally, we realign our hearts with His.
By giving—our time, our money, our attention—we live out Christ’s call to love sacrificially.
Jesus reminds us of the heart behind these practices:
“When you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing…And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” - Matthew 6:3–4
Lent prepares us for Easter/Pascha, reminding us that resurrection only comes after the cross, and that renewal is always possible.
✨ Ways to prepare for Lent:✨
➡️ Choose a prayer rhythm you can actually keep
➡️ Fast from something that distracts you—and add something that draws you closer to Christ!
➡️ Serve intentionally: soup kitchens, shelters, pregnancy centers, parish or church outreach (more on this in the comments below ⬇️)
➡️ Set aside money you’d normally spend on extras and give it generously
➡️ Seek reconciliation, practice forgiveness, and extend mercy freely
Lent is about becoming lighter… less attached to what distracts us, more rooted in humility, love, and compassion.
May this season not be about doing more, but about loving deeper. 🤍
