If your child is always moving, it can feel like they’re “all over the place.” For many children, movement is how they feel regulated, connected, and ready to learn.

These 3 toys are simple ways to support that need at home while still building communication and play skills:
✔️ Bubble machine for shared attention and requesting
✔️ Stepping stones for balance, sequencing, and following directions
✔️ Tunnel, tent, and ball pit for body awareness, pretend play, and regulation

When movement needs are supported, we often see increases in attention, language, and social interaction. If you’re looking for support building these skills at home, our team can help! Reach out to learn more!

Bedtime can bring out big emotions for many children and there’s a reason why! For young children, moving from one activity to another, especially from play to bedtime, can feel confusing, overwhelming, and out of their control. Their brains are still developing the ability to shift gears smoothly, especially when they’re tired at the end of the day.

That’s why bedtime often becomes the “perfect storm.” It combines multiple transitions, lower energy, separation from caregivers, and a loss of control all at once.

In those moments, tantrums aren’t about defiance. They’re a way of communicating that something feels too big to manage alone.

The good news is that small shifts can make a big difference: predictable routines, gentle warnings, and adding connection before separation can all help your child feel safer and more supported through the transition.

What part of bedtime feels the hardest in your home right now?

Therapy is often thought of as something focused only on your child’s goals, but what’s less often talked about is how much support it provides for your entire family.

When your child begins therapy, your family is also learning, adjusting, and finding new ways to navigate everyday routines together. The process is not just about skill building. It is about creating more understanding, consistency, and connection at home.

Progress does not happen in isolation. It happens in the small moments, how you respond, how routines are structured, and how supported your family feels along the way.

At AACT, therapy is designed to support both your child and your family system through collaborative, individualized care.

What is one thing you have learned about your child since starting therapy?

Tantrums are often a sign that your child is overwhelmed. Small, consistent routines at home can make a meaningful difference in supporting emotional regulation and reducing challenging moments throughout the day. Things like predictable transitions, built-in movement breaks, consistent daily routines, and intentional connection time all help children feel safer, more regulated, and more prepared for what comes next.

While no single strategy works for every child, supportive structure and skill-building can go a long way in helping families navigate big emotions with more confidence.

If your child is experiencing frequent or intense behavioral challenges, our ABA Therapy team is here to help. We work with families to identify the “why” behind behaviors and build practical, individualized strategies that support growth at home, school, and in the community.

Big emotions can feel overwhelming for both kids and parents. In these moments, what your child needs most is connection. When your child is overwhelmed, they aren’t trying to be difficult. They may not have the skills yet to calm their body and handle what they’re feeling.

That’s why calming strategies that focus on connection first can make such a difference. Simple shifts like staying close, using a softer voice, noticing how your child feels, and offering predictable support help your child feel safe enough to calm down.

If your child is having frequent meltdowns or struggling with their emotions, our team can help build individualized strategies to support regulation and communication at home through ABA and speech therapy support. Reach out to learn more!

If you’re working on first words with your child, the toys you choose can make a big difference!

The best toys for early language are the ones that naturally create opportunities for connection, repetition, and simple words like go, more, up, open, and help.

These are some of our favorite toys for building first words because they encourage back-and-forth interaction, turn-taking, and lots of chances to model language during play.

Which toy does your child reach for the most right now?

“Why won’t my child imitate sounds?”

This is one of the most common questions parents ask and the answer has less to do with speech itself and more to do with the foundational skills that come first.

Before children copy words, they’re usually learning:
✔️ Connection
✔️ Shared attention
✔️ Turn-taking
✔️ Imitation through actions and play

One of the best things you can do is reduce pressure and make interaction fun. Simple routines, playful actions, and face-to-face connection can go a long way in helping your child feel engaged and ready to communicate. .

If your child is struggling with imitation, early communication, or speech development, our team can help you figure out what skills to build next and how to support progress at home. Reach out to learn more about our speech and ABA services!

Grocery store trips can be more than just errands! They’re actually full of learning opportunities for your child to build language, attention, and independence in a natural way.

Here are 3 simple ways to make the most of these trips:

✔️ Talk about what you see (“I see apples!” or “We need milk”)
✔️ Offer choices whenever possible (“Do you want bananas or strawberries?”)
✔️ Let your child help (hold items, put things in the cart, scan items)

Need help navigating daily routines like grocery shopping, mealtimes, or transitions? Our team can help support your child with practical, real-life skills!
