EMERGENCY PLACEMENT DEADLINE 630PM TUESDAY 07/21/26
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION ONLY THROUGH PACC
Name: Nugget
Animal ID: A905640
Age: 3 years
Weight: 100lbs
Meet Nugget, a giant guy with an even bigger heart who is looking to be the crowned king of his castle as the only dog in the household. At three years old, this handsome 100-pound Doberman and Pit Bull cross but looks more lab and Weimaraner is a total couch potato who wants nothing more than to be your ultimate cuddle buddy. His previous owner shared that Nugget is an incredibly affectionate boy who is very friendly with people and absolutely adores his toys and treats. In fact, he thinks so highly of his things that he would love a home where he never has to worry about sharing them.
Nugget has a social side and has great notes from shelter playgroups, where he has done very well interacting and playing with other pups. However, because he heavily guards his food and toys, this behavior unfortunately led to a few altercations in his previous home that resulted in severe injuries to the other resident dogs. To ensure everyone stays safe and happy, Nugget needs a fresh start in a one dog home where he can relax without any pressure to share.
If you are looking for a loyal, people-loving big boy who will happily occupy the other half of your couch, Nugget is your guy. He is ready to find a dedicated adopter where he can be the only dog in the home. Come meet this big, lovable boy today!
Available for adoption only through PACC.
Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the COB Tuesday July 21st, 2026 deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.
Home Management Plan
No Other Dogs:
• Nugget is not suitable for a home with other dogs.
• Reason: resource guarding toys, treats, food
• Management: They should be the only dog in the household. Avoid dog parks, group walks, or introductions to unfamiliar dogs to maintain safety and reduce stress.
• Behaviors could improve with proper management and/or professional training.
Resource Guards Items or Food: from other dogs
• Circumstances: resource guards from other dogs that resulted in severe harm to another dog(s)
• Nugget may guard valued items such as food, toys, bones, or resting spaces.
• Management: Do not attempt to take items directly from their mouth or reach into their food bowl. Instead, trade with a high-value treat or toy to encourage voluntary release or when picking up a food bowl, call the dog away from the bowl into another room before picking up.
• Feeding Protocol: Feed them separately from other pets and in a quiet, low-traffic area. Allow them to eat undisturbed. Remove food bowls only after they have finished and moved away.
• Muzzle Training: Conditioning them to wear a muzzle can be beneficial during resource-handling practice or when introducing high-value items around people or other animals.
• Professional Support: Work with a qualified trainer or behaviorist to develop safe management and counterconditioning techniques.
• Recognize Warning Signals: Be aware of early signs of guarding behavior, such as stiffening, hovering over items, growling, or showing teeth. Respect these signals by calmly creating distance and redirecting their focus.
Severely Injured Another Animal:
• Nugget has a documented history of severely injuring another animal.
• Incident Details: started altercation in home over food which resulted in other dog needing to be humanly euthanized due to injuries
• Incident Details: In a separate incident, Nugget attempted to take over a bowl while another dog was eating, resulting in an altercation that required the other dog to get stitches.
⭐️ Nugget is eligible for the Helping Orphaned Mutts Succeed “Starfish Forever Foster” program. If someone adopts Nugget and they’re approved for the support (see the promissory note requirement below), HOMS will enroll him/her in accident-only health insurance and cover his/her premium, assist with food and behavioral support, as well as provide supplies like a crate and toys if needed. The adopter will be asked to sign a promissory note to repay 50% of the support given if they rehome or surrender later. No charge for anything if you keep him/her in your home forever. ❤️ Interested parties should message Helping Orphaned Mutts Succeed on FB for details or text to 520-390-6904. Also message or text if you’d like to financially sponsor Nugget. It takes donations for a program like this to succeed.
