My heart is absolutely broken for our community and, most of all, for the family who lost someone they loved beyond words.
A son.
A husband.
A father.
A brother.
A friend.
A State Trooper who lost his life for no reason.
Right now, people will surround this family. There will be messages, prayers, food, flowers, and people asking, “What do you need?”
But please remember them in the days, weeks, and months ahead, too.
Because that is when they will need their community just as much.
Those boys will need people who continue to pour love into them. They will need people who tell them stories about their dad, who remind them who he was, who make sure his memory stays alive as they grow up.
And when you ask his wife or his mother what they need, please understand—they may not know.
How could they possibly know right now?
Sometimes people don’t need you to ask. They just need you to show up.
Sit with them in silence.
Cry with them.
Be angry with them.
Let them scream.
Let them talk about him over and over again.
Bring the food. Do the laundry. Take care of something around the house. Mow the yard. Help with the kids. Handle the little everyday things that somehow still have to be done when their entire world has stopped.
Just be present.
And when everyone else eventually goes back to their normal lives, remember that this family doesn’t get to go back to theirs.
Keep checking in. Keep showing up. Keep saying his name. Keep telling his stories. Keep loving those boys. Keep wrapping this family in the arms of this community.
This has broken me to my core, and I cannot begin to imagine the pain this family is feeling.
May we not only surround them today in their heartbreak, but continue to carry them in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead. 💙
Please keep this family, his fellow Troopers, and everyone who loved him close in your prayers.
Remember if you are to donate there is only one place they’ve approved not any other. (I’ll add into comments)
