For this week’s tasting we have two fantastic new wines and…
OLIVE OIL?
Domaine de Marquiliani Vin de Corse Rosé “Le Gris de Pauline, 2025 ($36.99) - An island off the southern coast of France, Corsica is full of small production, family-owned wineries passionate about their wines. Anne Amalric is the 3rd generation of her family to make wine, An agricultural chemist, returned from the mainland to take her place at the family farm. The rosé is gorgeous, but so pale that it is easily mistaken for a white wine. It’s a blend of 80% of the local Sciaccarellu and 20% Vermentinu (Vermentino) with obviously no skin contact. It’s named for Anne’s daughter, Pauline.
Ile de Beauté IGP Rouge, 2023 ($36.99) is a blend of 90% Sciaccarellu and 10% Syrah. It’s like drinking a cloud, with an appealing weightlessness and lovely floral notes from the Vermentino. Delicate, charming, and refined, it’s a perfect summer wine and will take a little chill.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil de Pauline ($49.99/375ml) – The olive oil, also named for Pauline, is world-class and made from indigenous olive tree varietals. It has a smooth, unctuous mouthfeel and a spicy finish that lasts for minutes. It’s used by several Michelin-starred restaurants. Expensive, but special!
