Online mixing has really changed the way music gets made. Actually, it's online everything. Drums, bass, guitar overdubs. So many talented people have their home studios dialed in to do what the specialize in. It makes it so quick and easy to record great sounds, and mixing has become such a flexible creative process that collaborating online is a no brainer. I really am enjoying this new process!

I'm excited to be helping with the mix of Mari Iijima's new album entitled "Awakening". Mari did all of the writing, producing, arranging, and recording of her new work from home, and we have been collaborating on the mix online. I had the opportunity to hear an A/B comparison of several different audio file resolution formats at Capito Studio "B" ranging from MP3 to 192k/32bit hi-res audio. This demonstration was a collaboration between Ultimate Ears and Capitol Studios. The source material, common to all formats, was a three track analog recording with all natural acoustic instruments. It was thought provoking experience causing one to consider what is truely lost from the control room to the consumer, and if it's preservation has a practical value in today's music economy, with contemporary commercial music and today's music fan...
