Where to start? Glenpool, BlackGold Days Festival it was a hot weekend, but we made it!
First, to the parents who trusted me to keep an eye near your kids, their bikes, and their health, thank you! It means a lot to me as a mom to know that other moms are ok with their kids coming to me if they need something while they are out there. I bike-sat a few bikes, made sure every kid I saw without a grown up with them was staying cool enough with the heat provided shade breaks etc. I pray I continue to be that mom for the kids in our community that they know they can go to if needed at these events.
Second, to the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce. Thank you for allowing the vendors who had the space to set up a second canopy for that shade space. It made a huge difference for those who were able to utilize it, not just for themselves but for their customers as well.
Ok, here's, in my mind, the biggie.
We vendors all know to watch out for each other, watch booths for restroom breaks, etc, especially on the longer events and even more so in the heat situations we had this weekend. If you thought you noticed my booth space relocated between Saturday night and Sunday morning, you'd be correct. Due to that relocation though, I was near other vendor friends who ended up needing all the cooling items we had available. Between 3 booths there were 5 of us. One person in one, a couple in the middle and my mom and I in the 3rd. The couple in the middle is who needed the help, each of them at separate times. Because the 3 of us have all been vendor neighbors before, we knew how to help in each of the booths to keep an eye on each other's stuff while rotating out who was watching the one dealing with the heat and trying to cool off. We kept cooling cloths on them, water with electrolytes, and wipes that had been kept in the ice chest so they were cold as well. One of the couple took quite a bit to snap back, but he did.
If you have ever been a vendor at an outdoor hot event, THIS is what it is about. It is about making sure your neighbors are safe as well as you. Get to know your vendor neighbors on longer events, let them know what you may have available in case of emergency, and know enough to help watch their booth if need be for a short term. We all become a vendor family, and in times like this weekend, it shows.
This picture was taken I believe Thursday night and is shared with grown ups permission. This kiddo got this cat from me LAST year at Black Gold Days and happened to still have it in his bag. 🥰
