Road trip day three we went from Iowa to Wyoming pretty much without stopping. We started the day in our car at a rest stop on the side of the highway in a torrential lightning storm. At the end of the day we got to camp in the most magical place right outside of Laramie (thanks Claire for the recommendation!) that was filled with wildflowers and incredible rock formations. It was so nice to get to fully relax.

Day two of our road trip was full of books and bagels, so pretty great! We started the day off with the best bagel sandwich of my life at BreadHive and left with a bag of bagels for the road. Then we visited Em and Em’s Books who were nice enough to open for us on their day off. They are also Native owned and I have been so excited to visit them in person! Our rule for the roadtrip is we each get to pick out one book per stop, so that we’ll all still fit in the car on the way home. At Em and Em’s Books I chose Things We Lost in the Fire by Mariana Enriquez and Blaze chose How to Be a Revolutionary by C.A. Davis. After that we stopped by Alice, Ever After Books and picked out a Beatrix Potter. We also got the perfect Richard Scarry print for our wedding road trip from their Anastasia Inciardi print machine. Then we headed to Cleveland and got to visit The ThirdSpace Reading Room which is a gorgeous Black owned bookstore and community space. I found The Fire Inside by Rima Vesely-Flad and Blaze picked up Coltrane on Coltrane by Chris DeVito. It is so restorative to get to visit so many incredible bookstores, especially ones where the curation and community focus is so mindful. I feel so lucky to get to make connections and be part of the diverse, vibrant bookselling community.

We are officially on our way to California to get married! We’re going to be stopping at as many indie bookstores on the way as we can. On the way out we have to hurry, but we’ll get to be more leisurely on the way back. Our first stop is Buffalo for BreadHive bagels (thanks for the recommendation Sarah Putnam 🥯✨) and Em and Em’s Books 📚💕 Talking Leaves Books and Burning Books are on are schedule for the drive back home in a few weeks. We appreciate everyone’s support so much. These last few months have been really hard, but also beautiful. We are so grateful for our community. The bookstore will be open normal hours throughout June, and we used our unexpected free time yesterday to make it extra pretty ✨🏳️‍🌈

We won’t be able to be at pride today 😢 getting a gift certificate supports us so much and goes a long way to helping us recover.

We leave for our wedding in California in just under a week! We wanted to make sure we got a lake day before go, and yesterday was the perfect day for it. We swam, Theo chased some waves and we read on a blanket surrounded by wild flowers. There are very few things I love more than bringing a stack of books with me to a beautiful place to read. I brought You Better Be Lightning by (the On the Same Page Book Club pick that we’re discussing at the bookstore tomorrow at 6:30) and Asmodeus by . Blaze brought The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline. On the way to the lake we saw what I believe is a rat snake climbing a tree, which was a beautiful way to begin our visit. I’m always so grateful for this lake 💕
