A huge thank you to Kathleen M. (Turtle) for allowing the Fort Edward Free Library to borrow a canoe for the Founder’s Day Parade this Saturday, September 12. We also want to thank Morgan C., who kindly offered us another canoe this morning!

Our float will proudly display these banners in the canoe, Reading:
* The Great Carrying Place (Wahcoloosencoochaleva)
* The Great Reading Place: The FE Free Library

We need your help! We are looking for kids and adults to dress in period clothing—representing both Indigenous Native Americans and early settlers—to walk alongside the float and hand out candy.

A Special Incentive:
Thanks to a very kind donor who wants to encourage everyone to be a part of history, the first 15 participants who arrive in period costume or with a wagon decorated for that time period will receive a $10 cash reward immediately following the parade.

A Bit of Local History:
For those unfamiliar with our area's past, "The Great Carrying Place" in Fort Edward, New York, was an ancient 11-mile portage route. Native Americans and early settlers used this vital path to carry their canoes overland, bypassing the impassable rapids of the Hudson River.

We hope to see you there for this wonderful celebration of our community!
Hoping our float looks similar to the canoe display.
