We’re huge fans of doing your own thing for your wedding day! Case in point: Jenn and her husband Jeff had a very nontraditional wedding 18 years (and 2 weeks) ago!
The wedding day was an intimate ceremony in a garden followed by dinner at a nearby fancypants restaurant. Our wedding party was a mix of ladies and gents on each side and our cake was shaped like a popcorn bucket!
But the real twist is that the big friends and fam celebration was a whole 2 weeks later at the Rialto Square Theatre! 18 years ago today. Let me tell you breaking the events in half like that really made each one more fun, more stress free and way easier to plan out.

We played into the gorgeous theatre location and our love for movies with a fully themed event, complete with cardboard cutouts, a red carpet, movie ticket seating assignments handed out at the box office, theatre candy and a fresh popcorn cart. The tables were named for our favorite films and the photobooth saw a ton of action. Was it an excuse to carry a second (very large) bridal bouquet? Heck yes! Did I also have pizza delivered to my groom? Yup! Did the centerpieces feature live goldfish for some reason? Also yes, but that I actually regret. The rest I would do again today in a heartbeat. There was polka music mixed with movie soundtracks, maybe a movie themed word search in the program, loads of love and laughter, and the day was fully US.
If you’re thinking outside the box for your own event we say 100% GO FOR IT! Really make it YOUR wedding. It’s fun as hell, and will make your day truly unique and so memorable.
