Our senior year in high school, one of my best friends came to tell me there was an opening where she worked at the drug store on the south side of the square, Slix Drug Store. Come join the team.
So my first job was as a soda jerk, a fun job where I served coffe and cokes, made ice cream treats and met so many of the wonderful people of Glenwood. Later my job was to take care of the Hallmark cards and check in the Farner-Brocken orders for the front counter.
Years later I was able to purchase Donna’s Cards & Books on the north side of the square. My job — to take care of the Hallmark cards and check in fun merchandise. Life had come full circle. I opened the shop on August 13, 2001, as Emily’s Cards & Gifts and later it became Kally’s.
Today marks our 25th anniversary! The card shop has also been a fun job and what I call my dream that I didn’t know I had.
I have so many to thank for helping to make that dream come true, my better half, Larry who is always there to help, my neighbor, Mindy who gives the best advice, all the people who have worked with me and become friends and all the wonderful customers who have supported the shop.
