There is no better relaxation for me than a bike-ride around this town. As someone "new here" (16 years) I am in awe at the number of boats in and around our harbor! Yet, those born here, and who come from Gloucester fishing families, say that compared to it's glory days, our harbor is nearly empty! So I'd love to know. What it was like back then?! How many more boats were there? If there are so few moorings available now, where did they put them all? What was the % of fishing vs leisure vessels. Could the harbor accommodate that many boats again? Thanks for indulging me!

This Is What a Treasure Hunt REALLY Looks Like.

Most people see chaos.

We see possibility.

Behind every stack of dusty frames, every pile of battered furniture, every box of forgotten books, old toys, mystery drawers, and layers of “what on earth is that?” is the chance that something special is waiting to be found.
That’s the thrill of picking. You walk into a building packed floor-to-ceiling with random things—tight paths, dust in the air, heavy lifting, unstable stacks, and more work than anyone sees in a finished photo. Sometimes it is dirty. Sometimes it is risky. Almost always, it is hard work.
Because pickers don’t simply “find” inventory. We buy our work.
We take the gamble. We dig, haul, sort, research, clean, test, photograph, identify, price, catalog, market, stage, display, and ultimately find the right next home for the things we rescue.
A forgotten oil painting may need a careful cleaning. A great old dresser may need a repair and a good polish. A box that looks like nothing may hold vintage advertising, a rare book, an old toy, a family photograph, or the one piece that makes the entire day worthwhile.
The real treasure is not always gold, silver, or something with a big price tag. Sometimes it is the history. Sometimes it is the craftsmanship. Sometimes it is the story that gets saved because someone was willing to climb through the mess, get dirty, and look twice.
That is the picker’s life: part treasure hunter, part historian, part mover, part cleaner, part marketer, and part storyteller.
It’s a labor of love—and there is nothing quite like the moment you uncover something amazing where everyone else saw a pile of stuff.
What would you be looking for first: old advertising, antique furniture, art, books, toys, jewelry, or the mystery boxes?
