6.5 week post-op double mastectomy…and recovery definitely isn't a straight line.
I honestly thought I would be much further along by now. My incisions still aren't healed, and the reaction I've been dealing with from the Dermabond surgical glue has become extremely painful. My skin is red, angry and so sensitive that sometimes even having clothing against it hurts.
I saw a dermatologist today and found out that I have contact dermatitis from the surgical glue as well as a secondary infection. After already being on medication previously, I'm starting steroids and antibiotics again today, and they took a culture to hopefully determine exactly what we're dealing with.
It's frustrating. I'm tired. And I'm ready to feel like myself again. But I also know that healing happens on God's timeline, not mine.
So for now, I'm asking for prayers - that the infection clears, that my incisions finally heal, and that this is just another bump in the road that I'll soon be able to put behind me.
