Another great time with Chip and Patty Rowland! They’ve taken several pounds of salmon back to the Bay Area the last couple of trips with us. Yesterday they wanted to hit the upper river and cast for some half pounders. Weather was beautiful and the half pounders were fairly abundant. Ol’ Rudy got to go as well!! As always I appreciate all of my clients that support us. Several cohos starting to show up in the estuary along with good numbers of kings. Get out there and capitalize on what our river has to offer. Good luck to all of you!!💪🇺🇸

Just want to give a “Shout Out” to Mike Robert’s the infamous Seal team one hazing nightmare that keeps the pinnipeds at bay while we get to enjoy our day! Today he was a “Swamp logging Donkey “ and pulled a large piece of afternoon wood to the bank so we could all fish the pour off without this natural disaster!! Well beyond his scope of job description but he also has been known to render aid for disabled vessels. Thank you to the seal lion patrol for all you do!!👊🇺🇸

It was back to work this morning with two clients after a few days off for the holiday. Morning bite was kinda slow but we did hook a seal on a pink hoochie that took us for a ride!! Cranked on it for 15 minutes with our Edge 360 pro and our Gamakatsu short shank 2X pile driving hooks. I’ve always told my clients that we could crank in a seal on that combo but the seal took us into the rocks and swam away with our flasher! We didn’t intend on hooking a seal because they are protected by the 1972 Marine Mammal protection act signed into law by President Richard Nixon…. So after forfeiting 60 dollars with of gear to that silly pinniped we went back to hunting King Salmon. By 2:30 in the afternoon John and Rick had a nice collection of anadromous specimens to take home to their families. Rick had never caught a salmon before today at the ripe age of 77. His wife told him if he brought him one salmon she would make him a chocolate cake! Well, I hope she doubled the batch and made two!😉 Thank you John and Rick for spending your day with me and I hope to see you fellas again. As for me, if anyone gets a hold of that seal, I would like my flasher back and please tell him I’m sorry my hoochie was intriguing to him, I intended him no harm…..

Well the salmon were not in the mood they were yesterday but I managed to school my two sons on two nice Kings for myself!! Yep, I finally got to crank in a couple and it was awesome! Light tackle King fishing is the best. Early morning bite was non existent but a little sun on the water worked in my favor. Ol’ Rudy had a great time too! A few days off for me then back at it on Tuesday. Good luck out there everybody and I hope you get to bask in the glory of the purple and chrome beasts that lurk in our waters! FISH ON💪

Switched gears and went upstream with my son in-law and my grandson Hudson along with my oldest son Landen. My hunch was correct and we got some “Toads” on light tackle. Hudson caught his first salmon ever! What a blessing for me to to get to spend what I love doing with my family! Life is good! Choose how you get to spend your day and I hope to see everyone at the fish cleaning station!! Tomorrow we will be at it again, let’s hope we smack em’ like we did today!!💪

Listening to Jimmy Buffet while catching nice Kings. Listen in the background as Chris Young was inquiring about the “Reel Malfunction “ we experienced 🤣 Yes, we had a reel fall out of the reel seat which added a little excitement to the fight! However Patty put another slab over the rail! As a guide we want you to enjoy the entire process that goes into catching these salmon but the end goal is putting them in the boat. Take a minute and enjoy this video and hopefully you will get the experience this very same thing, without the reel falling off of course!!😉

Well this concludes two days with Chip and Patty as they head back to the Bay Area with their limits of kings. Tougher bite for us today but we finished the day strong with a very nice adult! Lots of “Super Jacks” around right now but this rain will bring another batch of large adults in to ring in Hogtember!! Not that I was paying attention but Patty put more poundage on the scale than Chip did this trip!😉 They will be back in a couple of weeks to try their luck again. As for me, I’m hunkered down in my RV with my Wife, two labs and yes the spicy little Weiner dog named Kimber. Leader work and a little cleanup to get ready for my next batch of clients. I appreciate everyone who chose us to be their guide of choice this summer and I’m looking forward to many of you returning and a strong fall fishery over the next couple of months! I’ll see you at the cleaning station!!

Here’s to Chip and Patty Rowland! Thank you for believing in me, I appreciate you guys more than you know. Chip and Patty were one of my very first clients and now they fish with me every year. We had a marvelous day on the water with a full bag of nice Kings. This fishery is constantly evolving and sometimes you have make changes and today we changed up some stuff and it paid off in a big way. Tomorrow is a new day with its own set of challenges but today we got to bask in the glory of what the Rogue offered up to us. And for that, we are very grateful! Another day tomorrow with some of my favorite clients so we will see if the river will forfeit some more purple and chrome slabs. As for me, I have to do some leader work and prep for another opportunity tomorrow. And of course as always, I hope we all can meet at the cleaning station!!
