Mary Walker with son Jim at Cool Springs Station on Route 66 in 1934. The Walker family came to Az from Huntington Indiana looking for a way to make a living during the Great Depression. They bought Cool Springs and saw the mass flow of folks traveling to California during the Dust Bowl years. They were looking for a way to survive as depicted in the movie “Grapes of Wrath”

in 1936. Mary went to Kingman High School from 1935-1937. You can see original cabins in background. Only fragments of foundations remain now. Her parents, Tom and Mary moved to Cool Springs in 1935 from Huntington Indiana.
