How lucky were we all to be on this spinning rock at the same time as Dolly?

She inspired millions of us who never even met her. She brought so much joy, color, beauty and kindness into this world, and I don’t think any of that ends just because she’s gone.

I’ve been blasting Dolly in my workshop all week and feeling all the emotions that her music has carried me through over the years. Somewhere in the middle of all that singing and crying, these sunset spiny oyster butterflies started calling my name.

I’ve had the stones tucked away since Tucson. They intimidated me a little, and I’ve been waiting until I felt brave enough to use them. This week, they just felt right. So I sat at my bench and started working. Somewhere along the way, the little turquoise butterfly poured out of me too.

I’ve always found some kind of peace in creating when my heart hurts. There’s something pretty special about making something beautiful in the middle of sadness, and I think Dolly understood that better than most.

The hole she leaves feels awfully big, but so is the legacy she left behind. I have a feeling she’ll be inspiring people for a long, long time. 🦋💕
