One of my favorite parts of the estate sale business is seeing the memories that come rushing back for people.
Sometimes it’s an old photograph. Sometimes it’s a yearbook. Sometimes it’s a simple item that instantly takes someone back to another time in their life.
Today, I had that experience myself.
While setting up an estate sale, I came across a photo of my Pa, Roy M. McConnell. He was a great man—a preacher, teacher, and principal who dedicated more than 40 years to serving others. He loved kids, believed in education, and left a lasting impact on countless lives. Seeing his picture stopped me in my tracks and brought back such wonderful memories.
Education has changed a lot over the years. I know that firsthand, having spent part of my own career in the classroom. But one thing hasn’t changed: great teachers and school staff can make a lifelong difference.
As another school year begins, I want to wish all the students, parents, teachers, administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians, and support staff a safe, successful, and rewarding 2026–2027 school year.
Here’s to a great year of learning, growth, and making memories that will last a lifetime. ❤️
