It’s been a hard year for a lot of people. I know Shayne would want this day of all days to have moments of fun and joy. Take a moment for yourself. Take a moment to think about others. Just take a moment, any moment, to find something joyful about today, this week, this year. And in the words of Shayne… “I’ve been trying to spread the cheer of Christmas Eve Eve for years and in 2020 we need it more than ever. Growing up with divorced parents and even though we were with his family on Christmas Eve, the day before was a holiday just for me, my sisters and our dad. We always got to open one present on Christmas Eve Eve, sometimes he picked which one for us, sometimes we picked, and sometimes all hell broke loose and we opened them all in a frenzy. Even when I was an adult, when I no longer got presents, I got to open a gift on Christmas Eve Eve with my little sister. It was still just as exciting and that’s when I realized the day was for our dad way more than for us. He grew up tough and in poverty and if not for his amazing aunt and uncle he and his brother and sister wouldn’t have had gifts on Christmas. Growing up that hard and poor he never thought he’d be able to gift anything to anyone, so giving presents to his kids meant soooo much to him. He’d talk about Christmas Eve Eve for weeks before, sitting around the tree and eyeballing presents, getting us more and more hyped until the big day and we were about to burst with anticipation. He wasn’t getting us excited like I thought, he was really that proud and happy for us to open his presents that he couldn’t take it, he really was that excited. He’s been gone over a decade now and Christmas Eve Eve is still my favorite part of Christmas. and I open presents and let’s my nieces pick just one (for now) present to open.
It’s been a tough year, give into temptation, accept the excitement, restraint be damned, dive into the decadence, HYPE up someone you love and OPEN SOME DAMN PRESENTS TODAY!!”
