Yes, her name is Purple, and it has been her name for her entire 10 years of life.
This is Purple's story. She is available by adoption application only to help ensure her next home is truly her last home.
Roughly a year ago, Purple's original owners, who had her for about nine years, lived in North Platte. They sold their house, and the non-English-speaking family who purchased it asked if they could keep Purple. The family simply let them have her.
Unfortunately, no important information was passed along, such as, "If you leave her alone in the backyard, she will escape trying to find her people!"
During the next 10 months with her new owners, Purple was loose a lot. She became a frequent flyer at the shelter, and we all grew to love her.
She was claimed twice by her owners, and about a month ago, we learned she had been rehomed to someone in Lexington because her owners couldn't keep her contained and were tired of paying fines.
Again, it appears no information was given to her new owner in Lexington.
A good Samaritan found Purple soaking wet at a gas station. Lexington Police Department impounded her. The good Samaritan asked the officer what would happen if she wasn't claimed and was told she would be euthanized after three days. When no one came for her, the good Samaritan went back and picked her up.
For over a month, they searched for the perfect home for Purple. The only reason they couldn't keep her was because they already had too many dogs, including a small dog, and Purple is not a fan of small dogs.
Otherwise, she did wonderfully in their home. She went to work with the good Samaritan during the day, and the family was home with her at night.
Eventually, the good Samaritan contacted us and asked if we could take Purple back because they were struggling to find her the perfect forever home. Of course, we said yes.
Purple actually thrived in their home. She is super chill. They had a secure six-foot fence with a doggy door. She was left free roaming with their larger dogs at times and did great. She didn't try to escape, and despite her separation anxiety, she never destroyed the house.
Now Purple is back in our care, and as you can imagine, being stuck in a kennel with separation anxiety and no people around is incredibly hard on her. She is URGENT.

She is so easy to love and would make the perfect family dog in the right home.
Ideally, she would have another dog friend, but she can absolutely be an only dog if she gets to be with her people most of the time.
She doesn't ask for much. She just wants her people.
Purple is also afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks. Trazodone and a ThunderShirt work well to help her through those stressful times.
She is literally the sweetest dog. She is friendly with every person and child she meets.
At 10 years old, Purple needs stability and a forever home. She has spent enough time wondering where she belongs.
