21st century impressionist figurative painting by Jon Davis. So. Damn. Good.
Okay, let me tell you the history of this painting (it means a lot to me, it’s from my personal collection: It’s 2012. I’m in college studying painting and drawing. Making art was my whole life and I lived for it. But, I realized I needed to put more meaning into the way art meant to me in a broader sense by filling my life with inspiration and by supporting other artists because I knew the struggle of making it. So I set off to start an art collection. I was 25, in college. Working a job that paid just my bills and my tuition but I wanted to buy art. So I saved up and created a budget slowly over time to start acquiring vintage art and contemporary art because I wanted to support living artists such as myself. I knew a local artist whose work I adored so I asked him if he’d paint me a custom painting. He agreed. He asked me, “what do you want a painting of?” And I said, “of movement.” That was it. That was his only guideline. And this immaculate beauty is what he came up with 😭. I took it to Blick and had it professionally framed and that alone was nearly a full 2 week’s salary for me at the time. But it mattered to me. And it still does.
And it’s come to my conclusion that my passion for art lies largely in cheering on other artists and giving them a platform to be celebrated and valued. So I’d like to give this painting the celebration of being valued and loved in a new home. Someone who connects with it as I have for nearly 15 years.
