Another 1970s color blocked Patricia White gem for y’all this Sunday Morning, aptly titled “Sunday Mornings.” The skewed perspective of this interior painting was what really stole my heart until I spotted the n**e drawing hanging on the back wall 😍. So. Good. Not to mention that color palette! Signed, titled, and dated 1971. Acrylic on stretched canvas. Can be framed in a simple lath frame, if interested.

I know I specialize in vintage art but whenever I have the opportunity to support a contemporary artist, I do. I firmly believe that supporting living artists is wildly important. It’s the chance to support someone’s dreams, their passion, their livelihood. I also think the best art collections are ones built from contemporary and vintage art.

When I first saw Wesley’s art, I immediately thought to myself, “wow, those are SO cool!” These cigarette paintings are not only cool and unique, they’re also very well done. Painted on a variety of surfaces, some deep cradled canvases, some on cradled wood, one with rounded edges. And then with the gold leafing and those hard shadows? Chef’s kiss. They would be perfect for a gallery wall, but they also look excellent together as a collection.

When I asked Wesley Ellis about what inspires him to paint he said, “My inspiration comes from the emotions, memories and experiences attached to everyday life. Feelings and moments like stress, comfort, loneliness, rebellion or just a habit that becomes part of someone’s life. I’m interested in the stories that exist behind something so simple. The gold leaf adds another layer to that idea. Representing how beauty, comfort, and difficult experiences can exist together. I’m inspired by the complexity of those moments and that something as simple as trash can make us remember tiny parts of our lives we may forget.“

Life at the shop! Here at Sidney Cotton Mill in Graham, NC, we’re a collective of multidisciplinary artists/ craftsmen and women that I feel so fortunate to be a part of! When I’m overwhelmed I take breaks and (aside from laying on the ground from exhaustion 😂) I like to go hang with Thea and Scales Studio.

I specialize in vintage art, custom framing, art restoration and sometimes when I’m feeling extra, vintage designer Scandinavian furniture.

Thea with Thea specializes in vintage designer seating with custom upholstery and fabrication. She has recreated so many incredible pieces and has recently fabricated her own custom fabric designed from cutting up old 100% cotton vintage denim jeans.

Trever with Scales Studio specializes in custom body work for rare motorcycles and cars as well as creating metal sculptures and acrylic paintings.

We love our work and are passionate about what we do and we also love one another. We got a good thing goin’ on here!

{pending}: Uhm, hello! Come to mama! This monumental color blocked n**e interior painting in a killer color palette by Patricia White (anyone else notice that the last three paintings I’ve listed have all been by female artists?! REPRESENT!). This big big girly is basically mural sized. Hard to truly grasp the scale of her on account of my 15’ ceilings but she is over 6’ tall and 8’ wide. White wasn’t playing when she brought this vision to life. And I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT! 👏 👏 👏

Circa 1970s. Acrylic on stretched canvas. Will be getting re-framed in a simple lath frame similar to one on canvas currently but cleaner and more durable.

If the painting is taller than me, has n**es in it, and a cool color palette— chances are Ima buy it. This painting went check, check, and check and then some. This posterized painting of two standing figures painted in pastel hues is another example of how scale really can make art so impactful. Some paintings are beautiful as small scale because they make you lean in and look closely. And some paintings, like this one, don’t give you any other option other than to look at it, standing proudly at nearly 5’9”. What I particularly like are the soft pinks, purple, and teal paired with the crispness of the shapes. So clean yet alluring. Acrylic on stretched canvas. Painted by Patricia White, circa 1970s but unsigned and undated. Presented in artist-made frame original to piece.

Elizabeth Palay, I’d like to send her a love letter. She’s one of my favorite abstract painters. Her work is vibrational, visceral, and yet cerebral all at the same time. Palay was a true color theorist (I mean, come on! She painted this massive painting that looks purple from a distance by juxtaposing pinks, blues, and greens closely together). In reference to her own work, Palay stated, “COLOR IS MY PASSION. I seek to engage the viewer in my visual world - that of colors playing together. Colors, not to create specific images but evoke sensations, thoughts, moods and memories of times and places. My palette is the vocabulary of visual poetry - my gestures, its syntax. Having experimented with representational, geometric and amorphous forms of color, abstraction and studied gesture then permitted color alone to define space, dimension, light, perspective and temperament.”

One of the things that I immediately thought to myself when I first discovered her work was, “wow, it looks like a massive scientific illustrative rendering of neuronal activity in the human mind.” As someone with a background in both art and science, I’m inherently drawn to artwork that is able to stitch those two worlds together in a cohesive manner. Her art makes me think of a painter’s interpretation of what it looks like to think. I love thinking about what thinking looks like.

Titled “Dunefield” and dated 1981 in verso, this piece spans a whopping 90” wide. This oil on stretched canvas painting explores a moody landscape of purple comprised of a multitude of various other colors painted with such precision all without losing the artistic energy she so expertly imbued into all of her work. Pictures truly do not do this painting justice.

Hello, my name is Kim and I’m obsessed with all things art and France. This Francophile, art smuggling nut job is officially heading back to France I. Less than 2 weeks! Be sure to turn your Heron & Hellebore instagram alerts ON October 9th-23rd as I will be posting art for sale WHILE in France that I’ll be picking up during those dates.

I’ve worked tirelessly to make this trip happen, reaching out to French artists, vintage shops, and French auctions to thus far acquire work from over 5 artist collections. Will it be like Indiana Jones traipsing ropes from Paris to Provence to make all this happen in 2 weeks? Yep. But where there’s a will there’s a way!

A good mirror is hard to find. But when I saw this I gasped. It’s so good. Standing chevalier mirror. Swivels 360°. Wooden back. Numbered 5 out of 316 made. If I had room for this mirror in my tiny cottage it would not be getting listed here at the shop (it’s a good thing for y’all my cottage is 700 sqft, otherwise I would not be able to let go of as much as I do!).

You want to know something about this art obsessed-woman? SHE LOVES BIG ART. It’s true. Scale really can make art so impactful. That’s not to say I don’t love small art, I love that too. But there’s something about really big art that stops me in my tracks, makes me want to dive right into the painting and wrap myself up in it like a blanket.

And you know what else I love? Lance Woody Gravett— the artist behind this monumental minimalist abstract painting. Now if y’all have been following me for a while you’ll know that name because I have been obsessed with his work since discovering it in April, 2025. Mentored by Richard Diebenkorn, he had such a unique artistic voice all his own though. I have, to date, purchased nearly 30 works by him. And they have not been cheap for me to acquire but I just have wanted to proliferate as many of his works out into the world as possible. And of the near-30 pieces I’ve purchased and sold of his, this one is an outlier in his collection. Gravett typically painted with bold, vibrant, saturated hues. So that’s what drew me to this piece by him in that it showed his ability to practice restraint when desired. Though in person, this piece is not just white, nope. It’s a light rainbow of colors comprising the composition. You have to see it in person to really see the nuances of color that he painted throughout this painting. As for condition, it does have some craquelure but the oil paint is fully stable on the linen substrate. I know for certain because I stretched this beast myself. Stay tuned for another monumental painting by Gravett for which I will alongside be posting a speech detailing his biography (his story is just as fascinating as his art, trust me).
