Today, my heart is broken.
Early this morning, I said goodbye to my best friend—my Mawmaw.
She wasn't just my grandmother. She helped raise me. I was blessed to grow up as Mawmaw and Pawpaw's girl, and they made sure I never questioned how deeply I was loved. If you knew them, you knew I was spoiled rotten—and I wouldn't trade a single second of it.
Mawmaw taught me what unconditional love looked like. She was kind, selfless, and had the biggest heart. Some of my greatest childhood memories were made with her and Pawpaw, and those memories are treasures I'll carry for the rest of my life.
Watching dementia slowly take pieces of the woman we knew and loved was one of the hardest things our family has ever experienced. But I refuse to let that disease define her. I choose to remember the Mawmaw who laughed, hugged me tight, loved her family fiercely, and always made sure I was cared for.
I'm thankful that before the disease took so much, I had a lifetime of love with her. And I'm grateful that the last thing we said to each other was, "I love you."
While my heart aches knowing she's no longer here, I find comfort in believing she's finally at peace after such a long journey.
Thank you, Mawmaw, for helping shape the woman I am today. Thank you for every hug, every prayer, every meal, every laugh, and every memory. Thank you for loving me so well.
I'll always be your girl.
I love you forever. Until we meet again. ❤️
