Cerberus is trying so hard to be brave here… but the shelter life just isn’t for him.🥺
At 4 years old and 75 pounds, this Akita mix should be stretched out on a couch, sighing dramatically because someone stopped petting him for 3 seconds...not pacing a kennel and panting from stress all day long.
He isn’t mean. He isn’t "fear aggressive." He’s just overwhelmed. The constant barking, cement floors, kennel doors slamming, and nonstop chaos have this boy anxious from the moment we open until the moment we close. And honestly? Watching dogs like Cerberus slowly shut down in a shelter is one of the hardest parts of this job.
But we KNOW this won’t be his forever personality. We know there’s a relaxed, happy dog hiding underneath all that stress. We’ve seen glimpses of it during his gentle, dainty dog playgroups where he’s happy to just exist and hang out with other dogs. He doesn’t ask for much… just a chance to exhale.
If you have a home... or even a temporary foster spot...and a heart big enough for a dog who desperately needs a break, please consider Cerberus. Sometimes saving a dog doesn’t look flashy. Sometimes it just looks like giving them a quiet place to finally sleep peacefully.
We are COMPLETELY out of big dog kennels right now, and every adoption, foster, share, and tag matters more than people realize. All dogs are currently $0 to adopt thanks to Cathy Bissell BISSELL Pet Foundation .
