It's time to kick-off the League of Minnesota Poets annual poetry tour!
We warmly welcome back the League and the five anticipated poets sharing their work this evening. Attendees will hear from local and regional poets published in this years' anthology, including Ryan Leng, Sarah Royer-Stoll, Brittany N. Jaekel, Morey Nellis, and Shelby D. Johnson. Our guest poets will have the spotlight for the evening, but if there is time afterwards we will open the circle to our usual open-mic style poetry share for all to participate.
We hope to host this event outdoors on our beach around a bonfire, so please dress warm! If the weather is rainy or too windy for a safe fire, than we will move indoors.
Our events are free and open to the public. Mobility aids may have difficulty accessing this event due to the beach rock.
League of Minnesota Poets Collaborates with Local Independent Bookstores to Highlight Literary Wealth
2025 edition of Agates slated to launch in September— League of Minnesota Poets launches Agates IndyBookStore Tour, the statewide book tour for their 89th volume of poetry, Agates. More than 60 Minnesota poets will read in various independent bookstores throughout Minnesota in the coming months. "We're doing this to celebrate and spotlight Minnesota's literary wealth of poets and independent bookstores," said a spokesperson from the League of Minnesota Poets. This is a Minnesota-Made event. This 99-page book contains works from Minnesota's poets, and is put together by League members. It's edited by Nicole Borg in St. Cloud, and designed by DeborahGraphix in Eagle Lake. It is printed by Bookmobile in Minneapolis.
Founded in 1934, the League of Minnesota Poets fosters poets and poetry throughout the state by sponsoring conferences, poetry retreats, readings, performances, contests, slams, and workshops. In 1937, the League issued its first volume of a poetry magazine, and every year since has produced a volume in one form or another. Some years the volume offered slender quarterly or bimonthly issues, but now it has become a fatter, poetry-packed once a year issue.
