Here at The Big Lake (TBL) we are obsessed with the joy, excitement and pleasure of gift giving. We understand that for most givers, the joy doesn't come solely from the giving of the gift, it starts early with the hunt. Stepping into TBL, we hope that you feel something shift in the energy. Our goal is for you to feel welcome and a sense of belonging immediately. Our shop is owned and operated by

a pack of wild women from the North: Nikki, Whitney, Jessi, Brooke, Amy & Abby (also one bearded man named Sam, and two little wild ones by the name of Freja & Aren). Our team is kind, empathetic, strong and yes, very wild. We love to support our artists and vendors. We adore living up North. Welcome to our home on the shore. Welcome to The Big Lake.

Congratulations to our dear friend Chelsea of the The Chocolate Dog for working SO DAMN HARD to open a dog park in her new community in Deer River, MN. Many of you knew Chelsea as the truffle lady of Gunflint Mercantile but she was ALSO a big supporter of our dog park here in Grand Marais. It’s so amazing to see friends flex their strength, intelligent and perseverance in real life and this is such an amazing example of that. Congrats, friend! Deer River is SO LUCKY to have you and Charley ❤️

Today we celebrate the women in our lives who have helped us grow, shown us their love and held us. Our mothers, sisters, friends, grandmothers, beloved animal companions, our chosen family…. We honor the women who have not only allowed, but encouraged us, to be our true and authentic selves.

To the mothers reading this, we hope you celebrate yourself today. Please take a moment to reflect and be proud of all that you do to love, hold and encourage the precious ones in your life. We see you. We appreciate you. We love you.

These are so chic - not to mention, they smell delicious! AND the porcelain containers are reusable (we were calling these the butter candles in our heads so you know what we're putting in ours when they're done burning!).

Oh, and all these lovely books aren't just for decoration, they're all new and in the shop now 😉
