What an incredible evening! 🌙✨
Tonight’s Moon Garden class was such a wonderful turnout, and I just want to say thank you to everyone who came out and spent the evening with us. It was so much fun getting to create together, and every single pot turned out beautifully. I absolutely loved seeing how unique each person’s design was!
We also got to learn about the amazing “night shift” of the garden—our nighttime pollinators! 🦋 While butterflies and bees get most of the attention, moths are incredible pollinators too. In fact, studies have shown that moths can be just as effective as bees at pollinating many plants, and because they work all night long, they continue the job long after bees have gone to bed. Many moths also travel farther between flowers than bees, helping move pollen across greater distances and increasing plant diversity.
Some other fun facts we learned:
🌙 Moths can smell flowers from miles away.
🤍 They’re naturally drawn to white and pale-colored flowers because they reflect moonlight and are easier to see at night.
🌿 Silver foliage catches the moonlight, making moon gardens glow while adding extra visual appeal after sunset.
🌸 Some moths have incredibly long tongues that allow them to reach nectar hidden deep inside flowers that many other pollinators can’t access.
Watching everyone’s creativity come to life made this class so special, and I can already tell this one is going to become a Grand Rapids Greenhouse favorite.
Thank you all again for making tonight such a memorable evening. This class is definitely staying in our class rotation for future years, and I can’t wait to spend another magical evening creating with all of you! 🌙🤍🌿
