I haven’t posted anything in awhile but we have been busy carving a bunch of these lately. This one I carved for a cello that was here for a few months getting a lot done. The bridge was the last thing and it’s always nice to see a project through.

When doing a neck reset or neck graft it is necessary to release the button from the neck. The best way to do this is with a careful saw cut. Nerve wracking work, but slow and steady gets the job done.

Minimizing a back crack. This is something we often get asked to do as restorers. We minimize an old ugly crack to improve its cosmetic appearance. In this case, we cleaned the crack from the outside thoroughly and then applied a reflective filler to level the texture and then applied touch up varnish to match the surrounding look. It’s quiet and focused work and one of my favorite jobs (as long as it goes well).

These fine examples of Barjonnet, Grunke, Nurnberger and Quade cello bows are available for trial for the next several weeks.
