Early last week, WMBI brass specialist Jacob had a chance to work on Mark Edwards’ prized Rudolf Meinl. The task at hand: remove the dent in the lower boot underneath the guard—no matter what it takes! Sure enough, we got the dent out with great success 🙌
Jacob also did a thorough checkover of the valves and tightened up the assembly to assure the rotors were smoother and quieter in the action.
These are the words from Mark on his prized Rudolf Meinl CC:
“The horn is playing great, thank you Jacob & WMBI! This horn was one of the first group of Rudolf Meinl tubas to come to the United States. I was able to get it through my teacher, Abe Torchinsky, who was an artist in residence at UM in early 70s. Dr. Arnold Jacobs (another one of my teachers) played my CC once in a lesson of mine and told me he thought it was a special horn. I have loved this horn for over 50 years and it has gotten me through my entire education and career. I do not feel like it's my horn. I feel like it's caretaker.”
“I have been really enjoyjng the ‘quietness’ of my Rudy's valves. It is amazing how you can get used to the clanking a little at a time. They feel and sound like when it was new!!”
It was great having you in at the shop, Mark—enjoy your Rudy Meinl! 😄
