On June 19th, 1865, a light finally broke through the darkness for Black folks in Galveston, Texas—more than two years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, they were finally granted their freedom. It was a moment of liberation long overdue, born out of struggle, sacrifice, and unwavering hope. Yet, even after that historic day, the road has been anything but easy for Black Americans—continual barriers, blatant injustice, and relentless adversity have tried to silence and diminish us. But today, we pause with hearts full of pride and gratitude. At Taboo Beauty Collective, we honor and celebrate those trailblazers whose resilience, innovation, and spirit have shaped the very essence of the beauty industry. Without Black people, there would be no hair color, no flat irons, no extensions, no skincare as we know it. Our beauty is rooted in your strength, your creativity, and your unbreakable spirit.
