Meet Chicken Tina, this week’s Legendary Layer!

Chicken Tina is our 6-year-old Black Copper Marans and one of the oldest hens on Chicken Schmidt Farms. She’s survived a raccoon attack that left her with only one functioning eye…but never fear, she’s still very much the head of the flock!

She runs the red coop with an iron wing, but when it comes to raising babies, she has a surprisingly gentle touch.

And at six years old, she’s still earning her title as a Legendary Layer! Chicken Tina lays beautiful dark brown eggs 2–3 times per week, not bad for the old lady of the flock!

Over the next few weeks, while Kalmbach Feeds is celebrating their Legendary Layers Giveaway, I thought it would be fun to introduce you to some of the girls behind the eggs here at Chicken Schmidt Farms. Each week, I’ll pick one hen and share a little about her breed, personality, and what makes her legendary around here.

Be sure to enter Kalmbach’s Layer Days Sweepstakes for a chance to win Hen House Reserve for a WHOLE YEAR & a new coop!
