Kenny grew up in a fly fishing family with roots stretching back to California's Yuba River gold mining era. His father taught him to fish and tie young, and by age 10 he'd surpassed his dad at the vise. After a career spanning guiding in Alaska and Northern California, retail, instruction, and rod building, Kenny co-founded Fly Water Travel in 1999. A driven innovator, he finds deep fulfillment in creating flies that are both beautiful and functional — always chasing the next solution to an everyday angling challenge.

From student to teacher.

Fish for Change student Cuan, 18, sits down at the vise with eight-year-old Jerrick to pass along the craft of fly tying. This is how the tradition keeps moving forward.

For Cuan, this program meant an opportunity he otherwise could not have afforded.

It took an 18-year-old angler from a small town on the east coast of Ireland and introduced him to new water, new cultures, and a community that shares his love for fly fishing. He came home with more confidence, new friendships, and an experience that helped him grow both as an angler and as a person.

House of Fly's very own, Fred Telleen. Fred fly fishes to live (30+ years guiding, teaching, trip hosting), and lives to fly fish (obsession). At the age of two, he landed his first Bluegill in Southern Michigan. Since then, he has never stopped looking into waters for fish. His first wild trout came from the waters of Glacier National Park a few years later. He spent much of his youth chasing fish in Wisconsin, the Great Lakes, and throughout central Canada. He went to Alaska in 1989, where he spent 26 seasons guiding and managing a fishing lodge. In 2000, he started Mystic Waters Fly Fishing on the Kenai River. In 2006, he was inducted into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame as a legendary Guide. In May of 2007, on his way to Alaska, he stopped at the Trout Shop and fished the Missouri for the first time. He moved to Great Falls the following October. Fred now lives in Cascade, Montana, a short drive from the Trout Shop. Stop in and he will be happy to provide local fishing details, set you up with the right flies and gear or simply talk fish, bear encounters, or even his experience with Bigfoot.

Brita Fordice is a fly designer and industry expert whose career in fly fishing began at The Avid Angler Fly Fishing Outfitters, where she spent over a decade (2004-2016) as a shop rat, managing operations, guiding, teaching classes, and hosting travel adventures around the globe. In 2016, she joined RIO Products, initially working in pro/tech support before being tapped to help develop their flies program from the ground up alongside Patrick Kilby. Drawing on her experience as a signature fly designer for another major brand, Brita was instrumental in the development of RIO's signature tyer program and has designed over 70 fly patterns for the company. Her expertise lies in saltwater fisheries from pole to pole and in crafting large streamers for rivers and lakes. Known for her encyclopedic knowledge of fly tying materials, she can dissect nearly any fly at a glance. Brita's true strength lies in her ability to innovate without sacrificing the essential “bugginess” that makes a fly effective.
