Do you sometimes need something concrete to hold on to as a reminder that Hashem runs the world? The story Mrs. Raven, a customer, shared is that for me: “My grandfather went ahead to America to establish himself, leaving his wife and three young children in Europe, as was often done. Finally, it was time for them to join him, and he bought them tickets to sail from England to America. But when my grandmother saw that the ship was scheduled to sail during Pesach, she absolutely refused. Despite being less than five feet tall and speaking no English, she marched down to the port and demanded the tickets be exchanged for a departure after the holiday. She succeeded, and they left after Pesach, made it safely to America, and raised their Jewish family there.
“The ship that my grandmother refused to sail on was the Titanic, and their tickets were for steerage. My father and his two brothers would be at the bottom of the ocean if it weren’t for my grandmother’s conviction. Because of her decision, I am now a grandmother myself.”
I love to share this with my own family as living proof that when one keeps the Torah, the Torah keeps them.
Praying for miraculous salvation in all of our lives.
Love,
Etty
