🪑 THINGS YOUR GRANDPARENTS' PORCH HAD THAT YOURS PROBABLY DOESN'T

Before patio furniture came in a box from three states away, porches looked a little different.

Metal glider rockers that squeaked just right. Cast iron plant stands. Old wooden porch swings hung by chain. Milk glass or crock planters holding one very determined fern. Screen doors with a spring that slammed just loud enough to get you in trouble. 😂

There's something about seeing one again that makes you want to sit a while.

📚 BACK TO SCHOOL… THE OLD-SCHOOL WAY

Before Chromebooks, smartboards, and online assignments, school looked a whole lot different.

Chalkboards. Metal lunchboxes. Pencil sharpeners bolted to the wall. Filmstrips. Library cards tucked into little paper pockets. Overhead projectors that took approximately half the class period to get working. 😂

And somehow, seeing one little piece of it again can take you straight back to a classroom you haven’t thought about in 30 years.

🔨 BUILT TO LAST

There’s just something different about the way things used to be made.

Solid wood. Hand-cut joints. Heavy hardware. Real glass. Details that weren’t added because they were trendy, but because somebody took pride in making something well.

So many of the pieces sitting in our vendors’ booths have already lived one lifetime... and they’re still ready for another.

That’s one of our favorite things about antiques. They weren’t made to be replaced in a few years. They were made to last.

Next time you’re wandering through Back Porch, slow down and look at the little details. The dovetails, tool marks, worn edges and old repairs can sometimes tell you just as much about a piece as the tag does. ❤️
