Summer Arts Institute: Rock Band Camp is back for Summer 2026!

This camp is a great fit for students in grades 7-12 who want to experience what it’s like to play in a real band setting. Guitarists, bassists, drummers, and vocalists will spend the session rehearsing together, learning rock repertoire, and building ensemble skills as a group. We’ve also had advanced wind players join in the past, so students with strong band experience are welcome too!

Rock Band Camp runs July 13–23 as part of our partnership with Guilford County Schools’ Summer Arts Institute.

Registration is now OPEN for Summer Arts Institute 2026, and we’re excited to once again partner with Guilford County Schools to offer a full lineup of summer music camps through Moore Music Company!

Our camps welcome everyone, not just Guilford County Schools students. If your child attends a private, charter, or surrounding county school, they’re invited too!

• Reboot Band Camp (Rising 7th/8th graders)
• Reboot Orchestra Camp (Rising 7th/8th graders)
• Rock Band Camp (Rising 9-12th graders)
• Jump Ahead Band Camp (Rising 5th/6th graders)
• Jump Ahead Orchestra Camp (Rising 5th/6th graders

July 6–9: Jump Ahead Band/Orchestra
July 13–16: Reboot Band/Orchestra + Rock Band (Week 1)
July 20–23: Reboot Band/Orchestra + Rock Band (Week 2)

We offer $150 tuition waivers for students currently leasing an instrument through Moore Music Company. Jump Ahead camps can be completely FREE with a qualifying lease. Students who have purchased or recently paid off an instrument with us may also qualify for a waiver. A $25 registration fee is due at signup.

If your student is ready to grow, build confidence, and make music alongside other dedicated young musicians this summer, we’d love to have them join us!

Charlotte Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director, Kwamé Ryan, has won a Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording for 'Heggie: Intelligence,' becoming the first Black conductor to win in the category.

Recorded with the Houston Grand Opera, Ryan served as the conductor for the world premiere production, leading the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra for the first performances in October 2023, as well as for the subsequent recording of the opera.

Ryan, a Trinidadian‑Canadian conductor who began his tenure as the 12th Music Director of the Charlotte Symphony in the 2024-25 season (serving as Music Director Designate the previous year) was the first Black conductor to hold the position in the orchestra’s history.

He has conducted at opera houses and symphonies worldwide and is recognized for his versatility across contemporary and classical repertoire. This marks his first Grammy Award, and he attended the awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

“Kwamé Ryan’s Grammy win reflects what audiences in Charlotte experience every time he steps on the podium,” said Charlotte Symphony President and CEO David Fisk. “We are incredibly proud of Kwamé and this well-deserved honor.”

With this recognition, Ryan not only became the first Black conductor to win in the Best Opera Recording category, but he also became the first Music Director in the Charlotte Symphony’s history to receive a Grammy Award.

Ryan will return to Charlotte to conduct the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 on February 13 and 14 at Belk Theater.

Our Film Scoring and Sound Design classes are now open! Students will compose original music, work with virtual instruments, and complete a scored animated film over six weeks.
