When I asked Chat GPT to create a horror for me:
Pearlie and the Last Customer
It was 11:47 p.m. when Pearlie finally finished packing the last order for Lilly Pearl Boutique.
The house was quiet.
Too quiet.
Keith had already gone to bed. Pearlie sat alone, scrolling through the boutique’s page, when her phone suddenly chimed.
DING.
A new message.
> “Are you still open?”
Pearlie frowned.
“No, honey. Not at midnight,” she whispered with a nervous laugh.
She began typing a reply, but another message appeared.
> “I’m already here.”
Pearlie froze.
Slowly, she turned toward the front window.
Nothing.
Then—
KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.
Pearlie jumped.
“Keith?” she called.
There was no answer.
She moved toward the door, then stopped just short of it.
Another message appeared on her phone.
> “Don’t open the door.”
Pearlie stared at the screen.
“What in the world…?”
KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.
This time, the sound came from the back door.
Pearlie spun around.
Her phone rang.
The caller ID read:
PEARLIE ARMSTRONG-MOORE
Her own name.
Against every instinct screaming at her to stop, Pearlie answered.
For several seconds, she heard nothing but slow, steady breathing.
Then a woman whispered:
> “Whatever you do… don’t let her see your face.”
Pearlie dropped the phone.
Behind her, somewhere in the house, a door began to creak open.
She turned.
At the end of the hallway stood a woman.
The same hair.
The same clothes.
The same face.
Pearlie’s face.
The woman smiled.
“You’ve been using my face in all those Facebook posts,” she whispered.
Pearlie backed away.
“Oh, absolutely not.”
She grabbed the nearest object—a heavy boutique display stand—and lifted it like a baseball bat.
The woman took one slow step forward.
Pearlie raised the stand higher.
“I don’t know who—or what—you are, but you picked the wrong house tonight!”
The lights went out.
Silence swallowed the room.
Then Pearlie felt warm breath against her ear.
A whisper followed:
> “Which one of us is the real Pearlie?”
The lights flickered back on.
The hallway was empty.
Pearlie stood perfectly still.
Her phone chimed again.
A brand-new post had appeared on the Lilly Pearl Boutique page.
It was a photograph of Pearlie asleep in her bed.
Posted one minute ago.
Beneath the picture were four words:
“Thanks for letting me in.”
Pearlie slowly turned toward the bedroom.
The door began to open.
THE END… FOR NOW. 👻
