This project definitely taught us a few things. 😅
We knew going into it that this piece was larger than the working area of our CNC.
We do have an extension-bed option for our machine, but installing it would mean modifying the machine, building a larger table, and permanently increasing the footprint of our setup. In our small shop, that’s a pretty big commitment.
So for this project, we decided to try cutting it in sections instead.
It worked, but getting those sections aligned perfectly was definitely a challenge. The alignment wasn’t quite as perfect as we’d hoped, although once everything was assembled, the difference was subtle enough that you really can’t see it in the finished piece.
Looking back, we think the extension bed would have given us a more continuous, cleaner result. But that’s part of learning something new—we figure out what works, what doesn’t, and what we’d do differently next time.
After the CNC work was finished, there was still plenty of hand-finishing to do before this piece was ready for its final reveal.
We’re pretty happy with how this one turned out. ❤️
