Mammoth Arms would like to apologize for being closed all day today, April 7th, 2026. We were in court for far longer than we anticipated (6+ hours!).
We were in court because we were robbed. A known gang leader robbed our store with three other members of his gang. We were one of the multiple gun stores in the city that were recently robbed by this gang. This is the third time we have been to court because of this case.
The gang leader was found guilty of all three charges. Felony shoplifting of a firearm (dropped to a misdemeanor, even though it was a deadly weapon that they still have not recovered). Felony gang activity, and Felony gang party to a crime.
After expert gang investigation witness testimony, the filmed confession of the gang leader himself in an interview, as well 3 different camera angles of the gun theft from our store, plus our testimony and witness, the local gang leader was sentenced to 6 months juvenile detention.
6 months. This gang leader was already on probation for aggravated assault with a knife, had violated probation twice, and was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the theft. Multiple other gang members involved in the gun theft were also on probation (also with ankle monitors), having been through the system so many times that the court recognized them by sight and knew them on a first name basis. With these and additional factors in mind, this known gang leader was only given 6 months in juvenile detention.
At court we were told by the gang investigators that this gang was involved last week in the shooting of a 12 year old who was shot multiple times including once in the head. Potentially with the gun that was stolen. 6 months.
The police investigators stated that serving time in jail often leads to respect gain and street cred for gang members. Meaning in 6 months this gang leader will be back on our streets with even more street cred and influence over his 20+ member gang.
6 months. 6 months is all the judge deemed necessary to help this "bright, young man with so much potential".
6 months for a gun in a violent gang's hands on your streets in Griffin Georgia.
I just wanted to notify everyone that there is a known violent gang with at least one illegally obtained firearm loose. In fact we learned today there are over 1,300 KNOWN gang members in the city of Griffin! Almost 6% of our population is a gang member!! (Per the Griffin Police Department gang expert)
In Mammoth Arms' opinion this judges' ruling and the apparent lack of care for the general safety of the public and law abiding citizens of Griffin is a travesty. It is Mammoth Arms' opinion that this is a gross failure of the justice system and perpetuates the "catch and release" mentality that we have seen plague our nation for decades now.

With more bloodshed? That seems to be the only thing that makes the news nowadays.
Lax juvenile justice leads to an increase in violent crime. Crime that affects all of us.
I want to make it clear that this judge acted within the law and the bounds of the court's legal discretion. And that is the problem.
In our current system mercy has overshadowed and robbed justice; and where there is no justice violent criminals thrive.
Clearly change is needed and has been needed for a long time. A system that allows violence such as this to perpetuate is nothing short of a broken system.
This is not Chicago, this is not Detroit, New York, or LA. This is small town Griffin Georgia.
If you want to see change as we do call your local elected officials at the city, county, state, and even federal levels and demand the changes that are so desperately and obviously needed.
