It’s with a slightly heavy heart — but also a lot of relief and optimism — that we share Island Goods will be closing at the end of January 2026. The time has come for us to make a change, refocus on what truly matters, and choose what’s best for our family.
The last six years have brought us incredible memories, and saying goodbye is not easy. But the world has changed — people have changed, retail has changed. We gave it everything we had. Retail is tough, and the last few years have pushed us right up against the limits of what we can and cannot control. When we opened our doors in May 2020, the world was in a place none of us could have imagined. This store gave us hope and a positive outlet when we desperately needed one.
Some might say, “Owning a business on the Island is hard.” But the truth is, owning a business anywhere is hard. What I can say with complete sincerity is that the Island has supported us, lifted us, and shown us a sense of community that exceeded anything I ever expected.
So what’s next? When we opened The East End Cafe just down the road, we originally dreamed of blending some of Island Goods into that space — creating a café and market hybrid. That’s where our focus is now. We’ll continue offering Grosse Ile spirit wear, merch, handmade candles, and other select favorites from Island Goods at The East End.
We appreciate your patience as we navigate this transition — we’ve never done this before, and we’re learning as we go. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
Forever grateful,
♥Emily Wellman
