The Citadel Game Cellar is so excited to announce the beginning of our FREE Magic: The Gathering Commander League.

Why? - The Citadel MTG League aims to reward players for attending events. It’s our way of saying thank you to those who support us, and encouraging new players to join our rich community.

How? - Players who sign up for our MTG league can earn points in a variety of ways. Those points are totaled monthly, and the top 5 point earners get prizes. There is no cost to join, and we’ll do all the point tracking for you.

The point system:
2 points for attending any qualifying MTG Commander Event at the Citadel
1 point for participating in a “League Game” - those are a more challenging commander game
1 point for winning a League game
3 points for bringing a friend and getting them to sign up for the MTG League. They must play at least one commander game. That new player will also receive 3 points.

Points are totaled Monthly, and will reset at the beginning of a new month. They do not stack month to month- meaning anyone has a chance to win at any time!

Qualifying MTG Commander Events at The Citadel
Mondays @ 6:00 pm
Wednesdays @ 12:00 pm
Wednesdays @ 6:00 pm
Fridays @ 6:00 pm
Saturdays @ 6:00 pm
Certain other tournaments may be considered for points. This is on a case by case basis, and those opportunities will be announced.

Prizes For winners
1st place - 1 Collector Pack and Curated Single
2nd place - 4 Booster Packs
3rd Place - 3 Booster Packs
4th place - 2 Booster Pack
5th - 8th place - 1 Booster Pack
* Which sets the packs are chosen from is based on what the store has available.

Starting at 5:00 pm at the Velvet Mill in Stonington you can come explore our board game library. Either pick an old favorite or a member of our team can help you learn to play something new. This event is free, and no purchase is required to enjoy the games.

Today we honor, and remember all of the incredibly brave people who chose to lay down their lives for our freedom.

There is no amount of words we could ever say to fully express the gratitude we feel for them, or for the families that they left behind.

May we never take their sacrifice for granted, and may we strive to live in a way that honors their memory, and support the communities and people they loved.

If you’re looking for a way to spend your day, consider spending it with us! Our tables are always yours to play at- no reservation required- and always free.

However you choose to spend the day, we hope you’ll take a moment to remember the men & women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms- and are the reason we have the holiday to spend together.

One of our proudest and most fun facts is that the hit game, Axis and Allies was invented in our game store!

Designed by Larry Harris, we hosted some of the original game demos, and helped facilitate practice games to perfect the mechanics and flow- the game was originally called “1942”!

In 1981 we partnered with Larry to publish the first version of the game but our owner and founder Pat Flory thought it needed a different name. He suggested the now famous title “Axis and Allies”!

The game went on to be republished in 1984 by the Milton Bradley company, and the rest is history!

Now Axis and Allies has so many expansions and versions and we are just so honored to be a part of its roots.

We wouldn’t be who we are today without Axis and Allies, and without Pat’s creativity and drive.

We’re so proud to say we’ve been making history and memories since 1977! ✨

- Our tables are free (with the exception of drafts)
- New players for all hobbies are encouraged
