Does your plant collection have a lipstick plant? Their flowers emerge from the dark calyx (see the ones near the top of the photo) with red buds that resemble lipstick coming out of a tube, then they burst open with a beautiful red flower. Lipstick Plants (Aeschynanthus) are hardy outside here at the coast with protection, but they also make excellent houseplants in bright light situations.

Did you know that the houseplant shop voted the Central Coast’s best nursery is in Grover Beach? The Planted Parlour carries a variety of rare orchids, unusual houseplants, indoor trees, pottery, gifts, design services, repotting and workshops, with quality, service and expertise as its core values. Open to the public Thursday through Sunday.

The shop is so relaxing with the rain. It’s worth the trip out if you’re nearby.
