Couldn’t have said this better. Standing in agreement with Surfside Donuts. Thank you for supporting small businesses.🥹
Hi all.
There’s been a lot of internal conversation with myself about closing for the national strike on Friday, and we wanted to take a moment to share where we landed.
Surfside will be open on Friday.
From the beginning, our goal has been to create a space that feels welcoming, safe, and familiar for our community. Over the last couple of years, we’ve only closed for Christmas and truly unavoidable situations—and even those closures were hard. Being consistently open is one of the ways we show up for you, and we couldn’t quite reconcile taking that away on Friday.
There are a few other reasons behind our decision:
• We want to continue paying and supporting our staff
• We work with incredible local vendors who have already delivered (or are scheduled to this week), and that product deserves to be enjoyed—not wasted
• And honestly, the growing pressure on small businesses to carry the full weight of advocacy is heavy. That responsibility belongs with large corporations who have far more power and resources, yet often choose not to use them
If you choose not to purchase anything on Friday, that is completely okay—truly, no judgment at all. And if you do need or want to make purchases, we always encourage supporting local businesses when you can.
We might be wrong. We’re open to that. We’re doing the best we can with care, thought, and a lot of heart. For us, staying open is how we want to show up for our community on Friday.
Take really good care of yourselves. 🤎🍩
