💔 A difficult update from our family & Corbin's Flooring
I honestly never thought I would have to write this post, and I think part of the reason I’ve waited until almost the last minute is because I kept believing somehow we would find a way to turn things around.
Corbin's Flooring will be closing the doors to our current storefront on September 30th.
This is incredibly hard for me to say. When we moved into this location, I genuinely believed it was going to be a fresh start and a great opportunity for our little family business. I had SO MUCH FAITH in what we were building here, which makes admitting that it hasn’t worked out the way we hoped even harder.
The last two years have probably been the hardest two years our family has ever experienced. It has felt like every time we manage to get back on our feet, something else happens. We’ve dealt with jobs we poured our time and money into only to end up unpaid, costly disputes, unexpected business expenses, rising overhead, vehicle repairs, and setback after setback, all while trying to raise four little ones and keep everything moving at the same time.
For a long time, we kept telling ourselves, “Just hold on a little longer. The next month might be better.”
So we held on. And held on. Probably much longer than we financially should have, because neither of us wanted to give up on something we worked so hard to build.
The hardest part is that I still believe in what we were trying to do.
We got into flooring because we saw how unnecessarily expensive it can become at big-box stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s. Once you understand what flooring actually costs direct from the manufacturer, what typical markups can look like, and how much of the retail price is tied to massive overhead, huge warehouses, staffing, and all the expenses that come with operating a big-box store, it becomes hard not to see how much room there is to do things differently.
If you’re primarily selling flooring, you don’t need a giant warehouse or a massive showroom with enormous overhead. We believed we could keep things smaller and simpler, keep our expenses lower, and pass those savings directly on to customers by offering premium quality flooring at prices that are extremely hard to beat locally.
That was the whole idea behind Corbin’s Flooring: cut out as much unnecessary overhead and middlemen as possible so regular families didn’t have to overpay just to get a good floor.
And that’s what makes this so hard. We still believe the idea works. We still believe people deserve better pricing. We still know the value we’re offering. We just haven’t been able to get enough people through the door to make the storefront itself sustainable. We have worked incredibly hard to keep our flooring affordable, and I’m proud that even through everything, we have maintained 5-star ratings on Google and Facebook.
Unfortunately, good products and happy customers don’t always translate into enough foot traffic to support the overhead of a storefront. We get very few walk-in customers, and much of the business that does come through the door is installation-related, which carries substantially more labor, overhead, time, and risk than simply selling flooring.
At this point, our bills are simply higher than what the business is bringing in, and continuing to pretend we can absorb it indefinitely would only put our family in an even worse position.
I’ll admit that I’m ashamed posting this. I really believed this location was going to work. I believed if we offered great flooring at genuinely affordable prices and treated people well, word would eventually spread enough to make this successful. Having to admit that we couldn’t make the storefront work feels like a personal failure, even though I know how hard we have fought to keep it going.
If you’ve ever considered purchasing flooring from us, the next few weeks would mean more to our family than you probably realize. Whether you need flooring now, know someone remodeling, or simply share this post with someone who might, we would be incredibly grateful.
And if you’ve purchased from us before and had a good experience, please keep recommending us. Every share, recommendation, review, and flooring purchase truly does matter to a small family business like ours.
We still have some of the best prices around on quality LVP, including premium options that are hundreds or even thousands less than comparable flooring elsewhere, and we would love the opportunity to help as many families as possible save money before September 30th.
Thank you to every single person who has purchased from us, recommended us, left us a review, shared one of our posts, or simply encouraged us along the way.
& For those who've never heard of us, thank you for reading this far.
We really did give this everything we had. ❤️
