We also want to recognize all City of Gulf Shores departments for the way they come together during storm preparation and response. From planning and logistics to communication and on‑the‑ground support, every team plays a vital role in ensuring our community is ready and resilient.

A special thank you to our Emergency Management Coordinator, Brandan Franklin, for his outstanding leadership throughout the storm. Brandan’s commitment to keeping city leaders updated and ensuring logistics run smoothly play a critical role in our preparedness and response.

Gulf Shores Announces Hurricane Re-Entry Pass Distribution Deadline, City Office Closure to the Public, Effective 12:00 p.m., October 8.

Following the National Weather Service update issued at 5:30 p.m. on October 7, 2026, forecasts indicate that the Alabama Gulf Coast, including the City of Gulf Shores, is likely to be placed under a Hurricane Warning overnight. City Resolution requires that the distribution of hurricane re-entry passes cease once a Hurricane Warning is officially issued. However, to ensure residents and business owners have a final opportunity to obtain the required re-entry credentials, the City of Gulf Shores will extend pass distribution until 12:00 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, October 8. Hurricane Re-Entry Passes will be available at the following locations:
• Gulf Shores City Hall
• Gulf Shores City Store

All City offices will close to the public after 12:00 p.m. to allow municipal staff to finalize
emergency preparations ahead of the approaching storm.

If necessary, residents and business operators who are unable to secure a re-entry pass prior to 12:00 p.m. will have the opportunity to obtain one after the storm has passed at the new Gulf Shores Justice Center, located at 312 Medical Village Boulevard.

All City of Gulf Shores offices and facilities will close to the public beginning Friday, October 9, and will remain closed until further notice. Essential services—including Police, Fire Rescue, Public Works, and others—will continue operating to ensure public safety and health.

• 𝐃𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐒 – Residents are asked to STOP bringing any additional debris to the roadside.

• 𝐇𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐄 𝐑𝐄-𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐘 𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐒 – Hurricane Re-entry Passes are available at both City Hall and the Gulf Shores City Store. REMINDER: Per City Council resolution, once a hurricane warning has been issued, no hurricane passes of any type will be available.

𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬:
• 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭 - Monitor local weather reports closely. Keep weather radios on and cell phones charged so you can receive alerts.
• 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – Understanding your elevation helps determine potential storm surge impacts. Look up your elevation at https://viewer.nationalmap.gov/advanced-viewer/.
• 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – Ensure you have a safety plan for your family, including medication needs, important contacts, food, water, and pet care.
• 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝟕𝟐 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐎𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮 - Shelters will not be available for the first 72 hours after a storm. Prepare disaster kits with at least seven days of food, water, and essential supplies. Keep one full kit at home and smaller, portable kits in vehicles or workplaces.
• 𝐅𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐔𝐩 – Fill vehicles and generators in advance in case fuel becomes unavailable after the storm.
• 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 – Bring loose outdoor items—such as patio furniture, bikes, and garbage cans—inside. Anchor larger items that cannot be moved. Trim or remove trees that could fall on structures.
• 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝, 𝐃𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐃𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 – Never drive through flooded roadways. Water depth can be misleading and may leave you stranded or trapped.
• 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 – If an evacuation order is issued, leave immediately. Review possible evacuation routes now and arrange accommodations ahead of time.

Isaias causes cancellation of Shrimp Festival. Safety of visitors, vendors and volunteers top priority for organizers.

The 53rd Annual National Shrimp Festival has been cancelled. The cancellation is a direct result of Tropical Storm Isaias, which forecasters predict will develop into a Category 2 hurricane before making landfall along the northern gulf coast.

“I met early this morning with the City of Gulf Shores Emergency Management officials,” Coastal Alabama Business Chamber President Greg Alexander said. The Chamber is the presenter of the festival. “We made every attempt to conduct the festival this year, but due to the projection of high winds, heavy surf and rain over the weekend, it really left us no choice but to cancel this year’s event," Alexander said.

He also said that the swift changes in overnight predictors cemented the decision. “We said yesterday that we would wait until today’s forecasts and predictions were in to make a final decision. After the 4 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, it left us no choice but to cancel the event,” Alexander said.

Baldwin County sent out a release this morning that outlined the key points with Isaias: • Isaias is likely to be a significant hurricane at landfall. Confidence is increasing for major impacts to coastal Alabama and northwest Florida.
• Earliest reasonable arrival of tropical storm force winds: Friday morning and afternoon, with the most likely onset Friday evening.
• Hurricane and Storm Surge Watches: Expected to be issued later today.
• Major concerns: High winds, high surf, rip currents, storm surge, flash flooding, and tornadoes. Heavy rainfall remains a concern, especially after last weekend’s flooding.

“We were really looking forward to a great weekend with shrimp, music, hundreds of vendors and thousands of visitors,” Shrimp Festival Chairman Rob Barnas said. “But with Isaias predicted to make landfall in our immediate area, the safety of each of these volunteers, visitors and vendors was our top priority.”
