Warren Works Christmas Lighting didn't start with a ladder and a strand of lights. It started at Whites Florist in Seagoville, Texas.
My granny, Mary Lou Warren, ran that shop. Every year when the season turned, she and her crew went out and dressed the town. Trees wrapped by hand, garland run by hand, every ornament and every light placed on purpose. In the 90s I was the kid running underfoot through all of it, through the bank on the corner that's Homebank now, watching a plain lobby turn into something worth stopping for.
We didn't have much growing up, but my grandparents made sure Christmas never felt that way. They gave us a season bigger than our circumstances. That's the part I carry, and Granny Mary Lou is still here to see what it turned into.
The Warren in Warren Works is hers.
Now I get to do it twice. Once for my own two kids, seventeen years apart, who ride along with me at the end of every season to go look at the lights we put up. And once for every home and business that trusts us with theirs. When we pull off your street in December and your house is glowing, that's Mary Lou's work still going.
