FUNSPOT! LACONIA, NH 🕹️

Sometimes the coolest stops are the ones you never planned on making.

While in the latest grail hunt through New England, our Vaulted Road Trip stumbled upon FUNSPOT (funspotnh) in Laconia, New Hampshire — and if you’re into pop culture, retro gaming or pure nostalgia, this place is incredible.

Funspot has been entertaining people since 1952 and is home to a massive collection of arcade games, pinball machines and other attractions. But what really got our attention was the American Classic Arcade Museum inside.

This isn’t just a room filled with old games. It’s essentially a playable museum of video-game history.

We found classics like Pong, TRON, Buck Rogers, Star Trek, The Main Event, Tag Team Wrestling, Commando and countless others — most still lit up, playable and not restorations. If you grew up feeding quarters into arcade machines, there are a LOT of “I remember that!” moments here.

There are also some incredible pieces of gaming history on display, including an original 1980 Pac-Man circuit board, vintage Atari memorabilia, the massive Hercules pinball machine from 1979, and the classic Shoot the Bear r***e game.

And it doesn’t stop with the arcade. Funspot also features rows of Skee-Ball and pinball, plus mini-golf, candlepin bowling and traditional ten-pin bowling.

For a collectibles business built around pop culture and the things we grew up loving, this is exactly what a Vaulted Road Trip is supposed to find.

If you’re anywhere near New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, put Funspot on the list. We stumbled upon it almost by accident and ended up finding one of the coolest nostalgia stops of the entire trip.

A living, breathing, full-size TOYS “R” US! ⭐️🦒

And yes… Geoffrey is still here.

This wasn’t just a little Toys “R” Us section tucked inside another store. We’re talking aisles of toys, collectibles, action figures, Funko Pops, Godzilla, WWE, sports figures, board games, Play-Doh and enough nostalgia to make you feel like a kid again.

And we couldn’t leave empty-handed. We picked up a few of the Toys “R” Us exclusive Geoffrey Funko Pops, including Geoffrey #252 and the Metallic Winter Geoffrey #256. 🦒✨

On September 18, 1961, James Gandolfini was born in Westwood, New Jersey.

He had already built a solid career as a character actor, but in 1999 a role came along that would forever change television — Tony Soprano.

Gandolfini took a character who could be brutal, funny, intimidating, vulnerable and deeply complicated — sometimes all in the same scene — and turned him into one of the most unforgettable characters in television history.

The Sopranos didn’t just become a hit. It helped usher in a new era of television and proved that characters didn’t have to be traditional heroes for audiences to become completely invested in them.

For those of us from New Jersey, there was always something extra about watching it. The places, the accents, the references — and occasionally recognizing somewhere you’d actually been — made that world feel a little closer to home.

Gandolfini passed away far too young in 2013 at just 51, but the performances he left behind — especially Tony Soprano — remain firmly planted in pop culture.

Today we remember James Gandolfini on what would have been his 65th birthday.

On September 17, 1972, M*A*S*H premiered on CBS — and television would never look at war quite the same way again.

Set during the Korean War, the series followed the doctors, nurses and staff of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, led by characters who became television icons: Hawkeye Pierce, “Trapper” John, Hot Lips Houlihan, Radar O’Reilly, Klinger and so many others.

M*A*S*H could make you laugh one minute and completely stop you in your tracks the next. Beneath the jokes and unforgettable characters was a show about friendship, loss, sacrifice and ordinary people trying to hold onto their humanity in an extraordinary situation.

It lasted 11 seasons and 251 episodes, ultimately becoming one of the most celebrated television series ever made.

And when the 4077th finally said goodbye in 1983, America watched. “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen” drew more than 100 million viewers, becoming one of the most-watched television broadcasts in U.S. history.

More than five decades later, the humor still works, the serious moments still hit, and that opening theme can still instantly take you back.

On September 16, 1956, David Copperfield was born — a man who would eventually make us believe just about anything could disappear.

The Statue of Liberty. A Learjet. Himself from Alcatraz.

At his peak, Copperfield wasn’t simply a magician. His television specials were events. Millions tuned in to watch elaborate illusions that seemed impossible, and then spent the next day trying to figure out how in the world he did them.

For those who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, seeing Copperfield attempt something impossible was part of pop culture. Long before viral videos and social media, he knew how to create a moment people would talk about.

Decades later, he remains one of the most successful and recognizable illusionists in entertainment history.

Before streaming. Before binge-watching. Before you could watch anything you wanted whenever you wanted…there was appointment television.

On September 15, 1977, CHiPs hit the streets of Southern California for the first time.

For six seasons, Erik Estrada’s Ponch and Larry Wilcox’s Jon Baker made California Highway Patrol motorcycles, aviator sunglasses and endless stretches of freeway look like the coolest job in the world.

And that theme song? If you grew up with the show, you can probably hear it right now.

CHiPs is one of those shows that became more than something we watched. The motorcycles, toys, lunchboxes and collectibles became part of growing up — and decades later, seeing that familiar logo can instantly take you back.

That’s the thing about pop culture.
We don’t just collect the stuff. We collect the memories attached to it.

On September 14, 1985, America was introduced to four women sharing a house in Miami — and television was never quite the same.

The Golden Girls premiered on NBC, bringing together Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty as Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia.

What could have simply been a sitcom about four older women became a genuine pop-culture phenomenon. The series wasn’t afraid to tackle serious subjects, but it never forgot to be funny — and more than 40 years later, new generations are still discovering it.

Seven seasons. 180 episodes. Countless cheesecake conversations. And one theme song almost everyone can finish:
